Western Province vs Blue Bulls Predictions
The North/South derby is the biggest match on the South African domestic calendar although the Currie Cup is a bit more watered down compared to the URC. Still, both sides will want to impress but it s the Bulls, at least on paper, that look the stronger side.

Head to Head
Last season the Bulls comfortably beat Western Province in both Currie Cup matches.
Western Province Form
Western Province had a terrible 2024 Currie Cup campaign, winning just three of their 12 matches. They finished second from bottom.
Historically, Province are the most successful Currie Cup side but in recent seasons they’ve struggled to perform in the competition. They don’t feature many of their URC players, so it speaks volumes for their depth.
Western Province Team News
WP are not looking in great shape this season either but will be hopeful that their eight Junior U20 Springboks can perform for them. They also have some national sevens players on show in Tristan Lleyds, Zain Davids, Sako Makata, Justin Geduld and Ronald Brown.
Blue Bulls Form
The Bulls spent most of the 2024 Currie Cup campaign at the top of the table but a few slips towards the end saw them finish second. Still, with a home semi-final, they would have fancied their chances of making the final.
However, the blew chance after chance in their semi against the Sharks. At one point, playing against 12 players, the Bulls struggled to score points and had to settle for a draw after 80 minutes.
In extra time, the Sharks managed to get the job done and take their place in the final, which they ended up winning.
Blue Bulls Team News
Like most unions, the Bulls are reliant on their non-URC players. They have six U20 Junior Springboks in the squad as well. Despite that, there is some experience with flanker, Junior Pokomela in the squad after he started at the Cheetahs before moving to Western Province.
Verdict
The Blue Blues are tipped to cover the -15 handicap in Cape Town.
