Newcastle are certainly better than they were last season while Sale have not performed quite as well as 2024. However, Sale are still fancied to win in Tyneside. My best bet is for Newcastle to get within 9.5 points.

Newcastle return to action this weekend at the bottom of the Premiership table after the competition took a break during the Six Nations. The Falcons have two wins in their 11 fixtures thus far and are six points behind Exeter in ninth place.

While Newcastle have played in the Premiership Cup over the last couple of months, those results can hardly be read into much as internationals were not available. They lost their last Premiership game 55-35 at Bristol.

In the two weeks prior to that last, the Falcons lost heavily in the Challenge Cup to both Ospreys and Montpellier.

Newcastle should have their strongest side on Friday evening. There are a few injury concerns, but they have mostly been cleared to play.

Sale are struggling down in seventh place this season with six wins and five defeats in 11 matches. They are on 29 points, only six off fourth place, but they will need a string of results to get themselves into the top four race.

The Sharks played their last Premiership game at the end of January, a fixture they lost 32-23 at home to Bath. Prior to that, Sale lost 40-0 in Cape Town to the Stormers in the Champions Cup but did beat Toulon 33-7 at home a week later.
