Dragons vs Cardiff Predictions - Cardiff backed for victory in Newport

In the upcoming United Rugby Championship clash, Cardiff is expected to continue their strong form and overcome the -6.5 handicap against the Dragons. While Cardiff has won two of their last three matches and stands fourth on the table, the Dragons struggle with two losses and a draw. Cardiff's consistency contrasts sharply with the Dragons’ tumultuous start, including a significant 49-0 defeat to the Warriors. With Cardiff’s current lineup and access to international players, they are poised to capitalize on the Dragons’ vulnerabilities.

Dragons vs Cardiff Predictions

Cardiff have started the season well while the Dragons are already struggling. In Newport the Dragons are often quite a plucky side and this is a derby, however, I am backing Cardiff to over the -6.5 handicap given recent results.

Head to Head

Cardiff beat the Dragons 24-22 in December last year at Rodney Parade.

Dragons Form

Dragons are perennial bottom feeders in the United Rugby Championship and not much has changed in the first three rounds this season. They have two defeats and a draw thus far.

In round one, the Dragons lost 42-21 away to Ulster, which wasn’t their worst result. The Dragons were actually quite good for periods during the match, but they lack the quality to really threaten top sides.

A week later, in their first home game, the Dragons were impressive in a 17-17 draw against the Sharks. While the Sharks were poor, the Newport outfit ensured the semi-finalists from last season had to fight for every point.

After two plucky performances, the Dragons were played off the park in Glasgow last weekend, losing 49-0 to the Warriors. It will be a concerning result and hopefully not a sign of things to come, particularly at a time when the Welsh union are looking to cut a couple of professional sides.

Dragons Team News

After last week’s performance the Dragons are likely to make several changes to their side.

Cardiff Form

Cardiff have made an impressive start to the URC season, winning two of their opening three matches. They are currently fourth on the table.

On the opening weekend, the Blues defeated the Lions 33-20 at home before narrowly losing away to Munster 23-20 a week later. They bounced back with a 14-8 home win over Connacht last weekend.

Cardiff Team News

Cardiff may look to keep a similar side to what has performed well thus far. They still have access to their international players this week, so they will surely be used.

Verdict

Cardiff are backed to cover the -6.5 handicap against the Dragons.
