Dragons vs Leinster Predictions - Dragons can challenge Leinster at Rodney Parade

Editor
Last updated: 3 hours ago

In the upcoming clash between Dragons and Leinster, despite both sides not being at full strength, Leinster stands as the clear favorite. However, the resilient Dragons have demonstrated strong home performances, managing to keep close margins against formidable opponents. They are expected to get within a 20.5 point handicap. Leinster's recent form has been inconsistent due to a rotated squad, but the depth of their line-up still holds a solid advantage. This match provides an intriguing battle where Dragons could capitalize on Leinster resting key players post-international games.

Dragons vs Leinster Predictions

Leinster are huge favourites despite neither side being at full strength. While a Leinster win in Newport is likely, I do feel the hosts, who are often a plucky side at home, can get within the 20-point handicap.

  • Dragons have drawn 2 of their last 3 home matches.
  • Dragons have not lost by more than 7 points in their last 3 home matches.
  • Leinster have a lot of international players being rested.
  • Leinster have lost 3 of their last 5 matches.

Head to Head

Leinster beat Dragons 34-6 at home last season.

Dragons Form

The Dragons have made yet another poor start to their season, losing three and drawing two of their five matches. They are currently placed 15th on the table.

The one positive is that the two draws achieved this season were both at Rodney Parade where they held the Sharks 17-17 in round two and Ospreys 19-19 in round five. The Dragons were also beaten 49-0 by Glasgow away and lost 24-17 to Cardiff at home in mid-October.

Dragons Injuries & Team News

The non-international players in the Dragons squad would have had the last month off in the international window. However, Wales are still playing this weekend, so the Dragons are not quite at full strength.

Leinster Form

Leinster often dominates the URC league phase, particularly at the start of the campaign, however, that has not happened this season. After five matches, they are placed seventh with two wins and three defeats.

There are, however, reasons for the poor start. Their opening two games of the season, both in South Africa where they lost 35-0 to the Stormers and 39-31 to the Bulls, were played with weakened sides.

Leinster returned home to beat the Sharks comfortably before suffering a surprise 31-14 home loss to Munster. Just piro to the international break, the defending champions bounced back to beat Zebre 50-26 at home.

Leinster Injuries & Team News

Leinster won’t be anywhere near full strength this weekend and they shouldn’t need to be. Most of the internationals that have played for Ireland over the last few weeks are likely to be rested.

Verdict

The Dragons are tipped to get within 20.5 points.
