Based on last season, I’d back Edinburgh but after round one games last week, Edinburgh were very poor at Zebre. I am backing Ulster to get within the +5.5 handicap and perhaps win in Scotland.

Edinburgh had an up-and-down season last time out, mostly due to injuries and the squad lack real depth.

Coming into this campaign, not that much has changed for Edinburgh in terms of players, however, with some fortune on the injury front, they will be hopefully of qualifying for the URC quarters.

Last weekend was a horrid start for the Scottish outfit, though. Traveling to Zebre, Edinburgh were huge favourites yet lost the game 31-28. They will nee far better this week against Ulster if they don’t want to start with a double loss.

I expect several changes to the Edinburgh side that were so disappointing in Italy last weekend.

Ulster have regularly competed in recent URC seasons towards the top end of the table. However, last season, they suffered several injuries, and they had to settle for a bottom half finish and no quarterfinal.

In round one of the 2025/26 Rugby Championship, Ulster were convincing 42-21 winners against the Dragons on home soil. While it was far from perfect, it was a very solid start with improvement sure to come.
