Sharks vs Ulster Predictions - Sharks backed on their return to Durban

Editor
Last updated: 2 hours ago

In an upcoming URC clash, the Sharks will look to turn their fortunes around as they take on Ulster. Despite a slow start with two losses and a draw this season, the Sharks are bolstered by returning stars such as Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth. Ulster, having won their last two games, including a convincing win against the Bulls, also make this a formidable contest. With Ulster potentially rotating their squad due to travel, the Sharks have a favorable chance to cover the 11.5 handicap at home.

Sharks vs Ulster Predictions

I expect the Sharks to be a lot better this weekend at home and with so many international players back in their side. However, Ulster have shown their quality this season, which makes this a tough one to call with the handicap at 11.5.

I do expect Ulster to make a few changes, so I am leaning towards the Sharks to cover the handicap.

  • Sharks have lost 2 of their last 3 matches.
  • Sharks are winless in their last 3 matches.
  • Sharks beat Ulster last season by 3 points.
  • Ulster have won their last 2 matches.

Head to Head

The Sharks beat Ulster 22-19 in Ireland last season.

Sharks Form

The Sharks have made a poor start to the URC season and given the quality of their squad, there really is no excuse. They have had two tough fixtures, but performance wise, they have been far off the pace.

In round one, the Sharks lost 35-19 to Glasgow in Scotland before drawing 17-all against the Dragons in Newport. That was a very poor result for the South African side.

Last week, Leinster welcomed back several internationals, and the Sharks couldn’t cope, losing 31-5. They will hope a return to Durban will see their fortunes turn against another Irish outfit.

Sharks Injuries & Team News

The Sharks have a very good team this weekend as several internationals, including Siya Kolisi and Eben Etzebeth will feature in the side.

Ulster Form

Ulster missed their round two fixture as teams couldn’t travel due to a storm. They have won their two other games though, so currently they are looking relatively good for the season.

Ulster defeated the Dragons 42-21 at home in the opening round, dominated most of the game. Last week, despite being underdogs ahead of kick off, Ulster put away a very out of sorts Bulls side, winning 28-7.

Ulster Injuries & Team News

Ulster are very likely to make several changes given the long travel this week.

Verdict

Sharks are backed to cover the 11.5 handicap at home against Ulster.
