Argentina are generally quite strong at home but have suffered heavy defeats to South Africa in two of their last three at home, and lost their last four. I am backing the Springboks to cover the -7 handicap.

South Africa have won their last four matches against Argentina. Last time out the Springboks won 29-10 in Nelspruit. They have not met in Argentina since South Africa’s 46-13 win in 2019.

Argentina are bottom of the Rugby Championship table but that is only on points difference. They are level on nine points with South Africa and Australia.

Los Pumas began their campaign with a 41-26 home defeat to Australia. They bounced back against the same opponents a week later to win 48-17.

Argentina then traveled to New Zealand where they achieved an historic 25-18 success against the All Blacks. Unfortunately they were humiliated 53-3 the following week against the same opponents.

Victory in both matches against South Africa is a must if they have any hope of claiming their maiden Rugby Championship title.

Los Pumas have no reported no injuries, they should be at full strength.

South Africa are still in with a chance of claiming the Rugby Championship title but they must win both matches against Los Pumas to have any chance of overhauling New Zealand. They are also going to likely need a favour from Australia.

The Springboks beat New Zealand 26-10 in the opening match but then lost 35-23 to the All Blacks the next week. South Africa then lost 25-17 in Australia in what was a woeful performance.

The world champions pulled themselves together to beat the Wallabies 24-8 the week after. Their recent history against Argentina will give the Springboks plenty of confidence.

Handre Pollard is out of the tournament with injury. Second choice flyhalf, Elton Jantjies was sent home for disciplinary reasons so third choice Damian Willemse looks set to start again.

There is an expectancy that Jacques Nienaber will make quite a few changes for this game as he looks to give game time to some fringe players.
