Netherlands vs USA Predictions

A win for the Netherlands will see the USA eliminated from contention for the Super 8s. Netherlands are ranked 13th in the ICC’s T20 rankings, with the USA in 18th spot. With the USA having lost both of their matches in this World Cup, I’m banking on the Netherlands (who ran Pakistan close in their opening match) to take the win.

Netherlands bounced back from the disappointment of a narrow defeat to Pakistan in their opener by beating Namibia by seven wickets to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Michael Levitt once again got the innings off to a strong start, hitting three sixes in his 15-ball innings of 28. Bas de Leede has an average of 102.00 in the 2026 T20 World Cup. He picked up 2/20 against Namibia and followed it up by leading the Netherlands to victory with a 48-ball innings of 72* that included four sixes. Colin Ackermann has scored 20 and 32 in his two innings in the tournament and looks ready to post a big score.

Logan van Beek has taken 3/22, 1/46 and 2/13 in his last three matches, scoring 40* in his last two innings. Aryan Dutt (2/33, econ 8.25) knocked over two of Pakistan’s top three batters in their opener, while Paul van Meekeren (2/20, econ 5.00) took care of two of Pakistan’s top-five batters.

USA Form

After losing to India in their opening match, the USA suffered a second defeat when they lost to Pakistan by 32 runs, a defeat which has left them on the verge of elimination.

A strong batting performance from Pakistan saw them post 190/9, with Shadley van Schalkwyk once again producing a super spell of bowling. He followed up his 4/25 against India by returning figures of 4/25 (econ 6.25) against Pakistan. Mohammad Mohsin (1/27, econ 6.75) was the only other bowler to go for under 10 runs to the over.

Despite a slow start the USA pushed Pakistan to the end, finishing 32 short of their target. Shayan Jahangir (49 off 34), Milind Kumar (29 off 22) and Shubham Ranjane (51 off 30) starred with the bat in another strong performance from the USA, despite once again falling short of their target.

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards was pleased with his side’s performance in their second match of the tournament and had special praise for all-rounder Bas de Leede.

"Our guys bowled really well through the powerplay, and by taking those late wickets we restricted them to what we felt was a below-par score. Bas de Leede was sensational. I think he bowled his first over around the 10th and just really took control of the game for us. Then, he was incredibly clinical with the bat as well,” said Edwards at the televised post-match presentation.

“We give our openers the freedom to express themselves. I thought we had a decent powerplay; it would have been nice to be only one down but we back our guys to go hard and get us ahead of the game,” added Edwards.

Speaking at the post-match prize-giving, USA captain Monank Patel was proud of his side’s bowling in the powerplay, although he admitted that they let it slip in the middle overs.

"We gave up a lot of runs but we came back at the death, when our pace bowlers bowled well. We were in the game, did well in the powerplay but again in the middle overs we couldn't show intent and lost wickets. Their spinners weren't putting pace on the ball and it was hard to hit boundaries and sixes,” said Patel.
