Blues vs Brumbies Predictions

The Brumbies should give the Blues a tough clash this weekend. A tight affair is expected in Auckland, with the Brumbies backed to lose by less than 12 points. Do not rule out a Brumbies win in this one.

Blues have won 8 of their last 9 home matches.
Blues have won 7 of their last 9 home matches against the Brumbies.
Blues have seen a winning margin of less than 12 points in 4 of their last 5 home matches against the Brumbies.
Brumbies have lost by less than 5 points in 4 of their last 5 defeats.

Head to Head

The Blues have won three of their last four matches against the Brumbies.

Their last encounter saw the Brumbies win 26-21 in Canberra in 2019.

Blues Form

After a disappointing Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign, the Blues have made a positive start to Super Rugby trans-Tasman. They have won their opening two matches with complete ease.

The Blues opening round fixture was expected to be a close encounter when they traveled to Melbourne to face the Rebels. The Auckland-based outfit however produced a superb second half display to blow the Rebels off the park, winning 50-3.

They returned home last weekend to face the Waratahs, the weakest side in the competition. It was another convincing performance by the Blues as they ran out 48-21 winners in front of their home support.

Blues Injuries & Team News

Head coach Leon McDonald welcomes back Hoskins Sotutu after he was rested last weekend. Regular captain Patrick Tuipulotu remains on the bench after making his return from injury last week.

Mark Telea and Jonathan Ruru both make their return from injury via the bench. Ofa Tuungafasi misses out after sustaining a knee injury.

Brumbies Form

The Brumbies have enjoyed a fine season. They were unfortunate to lose the Super Rugby AU final to the Reds via a last minute try.

Coming into Super Rugby trans-Tasman the Brumbies would have hoped for a positive campaign. It started well, albeit with defeat. The Canberra-based outfit lost 31-29 in Christchurch to the Crusaders, although they could easily have drawn was it not for a last minute conversion miss.

That would have given the Brumbies plenty of confidence going into last weekend’s fixture against the Chiefs. Unfortunately they never really turned up on the day and lost 40-19.

The positive for the Brumbies is that they have now faced the two finalists of Super Rugby Aotearoa and will look to get at least a couple of results in the coming weeks.

Brumbies Injuries & Team News

Experienced scrumhalf Nick White returns to the starting lineup as the Brumbies seek their first win of Super Rugby trans-Tasman. Folau Fainga’a also returns after not featuring at all last weekend.

Captain Allan Alaalatoa will be the 15th Brumbies player in history to make his 100th appearance.

Verdict

Blues v Brumbies

The Brumbies have impressed in 2021 and lost out by just two points at the Crusaders a fortnight ago. They are backed to finish within 12 points of the Blues and are capable of upsetting the odds with a victory in Auckland on Saturday.
