The Blues will be eyeing a return to winning ways when the Chiefs visit Eden Park in Super Rugby Aotearoa on Sunday. The Auckland-based side have been excellent in 2020, so I’m tipping them to do the business at home and cover the handicap.

Blues Form & News

The Blues lost their impressive seven-match winning streak when they went down 26-15 to the Crusaders in Christchurch two weeks ago. Then last weekend, the Blues lost again, this time 29-27 away to the Hurricanes.

Returning to Eden Park will give the Blues a welcome boost after two defeats. If they can play like they have been in 2020, they should not have a problem beating the Chiefs.

Dan Carter’s debut was put on hold last week after having a niggle but it looks likely that he will make the match-day squad this weekend.

Chiefs Form & News

The Chiefs are really struggling. Last weekend, they lost their fifth consecutive match to the Highlanders. The Chiefs have fought hard in matches, but confidence will have been dented after the Chiefs allowed the Highlanders to win 33-31 in Hamilton.

The Chiefs did the groundwork and looked good for the win, but the Highlanders scored a try in the dying embers to seal the win. This followed a 25-18 home defeat to the Hurricanes.

Head coach Warren Gatland may look to shake things up a bit after losing their fifth consecutive match. One of those changes could see veteran fly-half Aaron Cruden return in place of Kaleb Trask.

Blues vs Chiefs Head to Head

The Chiefs have a 7-2 advantage over the Blues in their last 10 meetings. There has been one draw in that time.

The last time the two teams met, the Blues won 24-12 in Hamilton.

Blues vs Chiefs Odds

The Blues are priced at 1.38 to win, while the Chiefs are available at 3.10. A draw pays 26.00.

The handicap is set at seven points, with both teams paying 1.91 to cover it. In the winning margin market, the Blues are priced at 2.60 to claim a victory by between 1-12 points, while the Chiefs are available at 4.25 to win by the same margin.

Blues vs Chiefs Match Up

The Blues have enjoyed a successful Super Rugby Aotearoa campaign so far in terms of their form, despite losing their last two matches. Their pack is excellent, while their backs know how to score tries. Defensively, the Chiefs lack organisation, while their attack lacks consistency.

Blues vs Chiefs Stats

  • Blues beat the Chiefs 24-12 when they last played.
  • Blues have covered the -7 handicap in 5 of their last 8 matches.
  • Blues have won 7 of their last 9 matches.
  • Chiefs have lost their opening 5 matches of Super Rugby Aotearoa.
