Head to Head

The Highlanders lead 8-5 over their last 13 matches but the Blues have won three of their last four meetings. When they in the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa competition, the Blues won 39-17 at home while the Highlanders won 35-29 in Dunedin.

Blues Form

The Blues topped the Super Rugby trans-Tasman table after winning all five of their matches. Only points difference separated the top three teams.

The Auckland side got their season underway with a 50-3 thrashing of the Rebels in Melbourne. That was followed by a 48-21 home win over the Waratahs before beating the Brumbies 38-10 at home.

In round four the Blues defeated the Reds 31-24 in Queensland. Last week the men in blue were put under a bit of pressure on home soil but they managed to come through with a 31-21 win over the Western Force.

Blues Team News

The Blues have made just one change to the team that started last weekend. Flank Tom Robinson has been sidelined with concussion so Akira Ioane comes in to start on the side of the scrum.

Ofa Tuungafasi was expected to be fit for this fixture but the medical staff have decided it is too much of a risk.

Highlanders Form

The Highlanders were very impressive during the round robin stage of Super Rugby trans-Tasman, winning all five matches. They ended up sneaking into the final on points difference ahead of the Crusaders.

Over the course of the five matches, the Highlanders scored the second highest number of tries (30).

It was an impressive start for the Highlanders who beat the Reds 40-19 in round one. Thereafter the Dunedin-based outfit saw off the Western Force 25-15 in Perth before returning home to beat the Rebels 42-27.

A comfortable 59-23 win over the Waratahs then put the Highlanders on the brink of the final. Last week they put in a massive performance to beat the Brumbies 33-12 in Canberra.

Highlanders Team News

The Highlanders have named an unchanged team from last weekend.
