Crusaders vs Chiefs Predictions

The Crusaders are on their worst losing streak in the history of Super Rugby while the Chiefs have done well with four wins in five. That said, the Chiefs have only played one away game this season, losing it to the Reds.

I expect this to be a tight contest as the Crusaders, who may be at the bottom of the pile, still have a strong side. I am backing the hosts to get within seven points and perhaps get their first win of the season.

  • Crusaders have lost their last 5 matches.
  • Crusaders have lost 3 of their last 4 matches against the Chiefs.
  • Crusaders lost by 4 points in their last match against the Chiefs.
  • Chiefs have won 4 of their last 5 matches.
  • Chiefs have lost their only away match this season.

Head to Head

The Chiefs have won three of their last four matches against the Crusaders. The one defeat came in the Super Rugby final last season. In round one of the 2024 season, the Chiefs beat the Crusaders 33-29.

Crusaders Form

The Crusaders may be the two-time defending champions, but they are struggling this season. After five matches they are bottom of the table with just two points, losing all of their fixtures to date.

It can no longer be considered an early season blip as we start to approach the halfway point of the tournament. It is a full-blown crisis for the Crusaders, and something drastically needs to change.

On the opening weekend, the Crusaders lost to the Chiefs in Hamilton, but it was one of their better performances as they went down by four points. Over their last three games they have lost away to the Drua, at home to the Hurricanes and last week in Auckland to the Blues.

Crusaders Injuries & Team News

The Crusaders will be desperate to get a win under their belt. They can still make the playoffs, but results will be needed soon. I expect changes to their side though after another poor performance last weekend.

Chiefs Form

The Chiefs are second on the table after five games having won four. Their only defeat came a fortnight ago when they lost to the Reds.

Since that defeat, the Chiefs have beaten Fijian Drua 46-29 at home and last week saw off a spirited Highlanders outfit 28-21 on home soil.

Earlier this season the Chiefs won at home against the Crusaders and will be looking for a repeat result to keep the pressure on the Hurricanes at the top.

Chiefs Injuries & Team News

The Chiefs need to keep the pressure on the Hurricanes at the top. I don’t see them resting players for this game.

Verdict

The Crusaders are backed to get within seven points of the Chiefs and get their first win of the season.
