Hurricanes vs Chiefs Predictions

Both the Hurricanes and Chiefs are yet to win a match this season. This will be a tight encounter, with the best bet for the Hurricanes to beat the -2 handicap.

  • Hurricanes have covered the -2 handicap in 3 of their last 4 matches against the Chiefs.
  • Hurricanes have won 5 of their last 6 matches against the Chiefs.
  • Hurricanes have had a full week off for recovery.

Head to Head

The Hurricanes have won five of their last six matches against the Chiefs. The other match ended in a draw.

In their last match the Hurricanes won 31-18 during the 2020 Super Rugby Aotearoa.

Hurricanes Form

The Hurricanes have suffered defeats in both of their opening two Super Rugby Aotearoa matches. Consistency was a struggle last season and it seems to be continuing into this season.

On the opening weekend the Hurricanes went down 31-16 to the Blues at home. That was after a good first half performance where the Canes held a decent half time lead.

The Hurricanes then traveled to Christchurch to face a Crusaders side that is close to unbeatable at home. That said, the Hurricanes are the only side to win there over the last four years.

Unfortunately the Canes couldn’t re-enact last season’s heroics as they went down 33-16 to the Crusaders. Bar for a late try, the scoreline could have been far uglier for the Wellington-based outfit.

Hurricanes Injuries & Team News

The Hurricanes performances have thus far been very disappointing. On paper they have a lineup full of internationals.

Wes Goosen has yet to replicate his form from 2020 which could see another star in Salesi Rayasi make a start on the right wing.

Chiefs Form

Much like their opponents this week, the Chiefs have yet to win in their two matches. They started the season with a bang, leading comfortably at home against the Highlanders at half time.

They went on to concede five second half tries and lose 39-23 to the Highlanders. Last week the Chiefs were completely outplayed in a 39-17 defeat to the Crusaders in Christchurch.

The dominant Chiefs side of the last few years has almost completely disappeared as they now find themselves in a rebuilding phase. This encounter against the Hurricanes gives them an opportunity to get their season back on track.

Chiefs Injuries & Team News

The Chiefs dropped New Zealand international, Anton Lienert-Brown for their last match. He should be back at inside centre for this fixture.

Chase Tiatia will want to get his first start of the season after coming off the bench at flyhalf in the Chiefs last encounter.
