Reds vs Blues Predictions

The Reds will be in good spirits following their win last weekend over the Chiefs. However, they take on a Blues side in serious form. At home, I fancy the Reds to at least get close, so I’m tipping them to lose by less than seven points.

  • Reds have won 5 of their last 6 home matches.
  • Reds won their last match 40-34 against the Chiefs.
  • Reds have won 3 of their last 4 home matches against the Blues (1 draw).
  • Blues have won their last 3 matches.

Head to Head

The Blues have won three of their last four matches against the Reds while one ended in a draw.

Their last meeting took place in 2018 where the Blues won 39-16 at home.

The Reds are however unbeaten in their last 4 home matches against the Blues.

Reds Form

The Reds managed their first win last weekend, the first of any Australian side over their New Zealand counterparts in 15 matches.

That has pushed the Reds up to sixth on the table, still six points below the lowest place New Zealand side. After winning Super Rugby AU the Reds have struggled, losing 40-19 to the Highlanders in round one.

That was followed by a 63-28 home defeat to the Crusaders. Last week the Reds beat the Chiefs 40-34 in a nail-biting finish. The Queensland outfit led 30-3 at one point but managed to almost throw the game away in the end.

Reds Injuries & Team News

Brad Thorn has named an unchanged side to the one that beat the Chiefs last weekend.

Blues Form

The Blues top the Super Rugby trans-Tasman table after three rounds. They have a full house of points (15) after claiming bonus point wins in all three matches thus far.

Their season began with a huge 50-3 win over the Rebels in Melbourne before winning 48-21 at home against the Waratahs. Last week the Blues thrashed the Brumbies 38-10 in Auckland.

The Auckland side have only conceded four tries and 34 points in their three matches. This while scoring 136 points.

Blues Injuries & Team News

Blues head coach Leon McDonald has recalled three international players for this fixture. Prop Ofa Tuungafasi, lock Patrick Tuipulotu and loose forward Akira Ioane all start.

Verdict

The Reds are difficult to beat at home and showed that last week when they took down the Chiefs. They are backed to lose by less than seven points against the Blues, while a win against the odds should not be ruled out.
