The Welsh began the tournament with an impressive performance against New Zealand, getting within a score, losing 41-34. It was followed by a 21-point victory over Spain before losing 29-11 to France in the final group game.

Last weekend, in the semi-final for fifth place, Wales showed some promise again, losing 36-29 to Australia.

South Africa U20 Form

South Africa U20 have endured their worst U20 campaign for many years and the coaches have come in for quite a bit of criticism. The hosts, who were at least expected to challenge for the title, will have to be happy with seventh place.

A strong start in a 50-point win over Fiji gave many hope that the Baby Boks would challenge. However, since then it has been all downhill, losing 31-12 to Argentina and 17-12 to England in the group stage.

In the fifth-place semi-final, South Africa got the chance to revenge their defeat to Argentina but were outplayed again, losing 34-24.
