HTH - Five Straight for Sinner
Novak Djokovic has lost his last eight matches against Jannik Sinner.
Djokovic Form
Novak Djokovic lost in all four Grand Slam semi-finals last year. He has struggled to match the top two in men’s tennis, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner.
The 38-year-old withdrew from the Adelaide International but got off to a strong start at the Australian Open. He began his quest for an 11th title with straight sets victories over Pedro Martinez, Francesco Maestrelli and Botic van de Zandschulp.
The World No.4 had a walkover against Jakub Mensik in the fourth round and had more fortune in the quarter-finals. Down 4-6 3-6 3-1 to Lorenzo Musetti, the Italian retired due to a thigh injury.
Sinner Form
Jannik Sinner ended 2026 with 15 consecutive wins, losing just one set in that run. He finished the year with the ATP Finals title, beating Carlos Alcaraz in the final.
The World No.2 has hardly been tested at the Australian Open. He was leading 6-2 6-1 when Hugo Gaston retired and thrashed James Duckworth 6-1 6-4 6-2 in under two hours.
The Italian had some trouble in the third round before getting past Eliot Spizzirri in 4 sets. The extreme heat policy helped the Italian overcome cramp and maintain his winning streak.
The 24-year-old saved all six points in a 6-1 6-3 7-6 win against Luciano Darderi. He dominated Ben Shelton 6-3 6-4 6-4 in the quarter-finals, winning 65% of his 2nd serves and saving all four break points.
Verdict
Novak Djokovic lost all four Grand Slam semi-finals last year and lost five straight matches against Jannik Sinner. The 38-year-old is unlikely to stop the slide here, Sinner to get it done in straight sets.
