This is a tough one to call particularly with both sides missing key players. Sudan are the favourites but I fancy Congo to hold out for a draw.

These two sides have met six times in the last 17 years. They have won three each with no draws.

Congo Form

Congo are in decent form at the moment despite losing their opening group match 1-0 to Kenya. The game saw very few chances with Kenya snatching it with a slightly fortunate goal.

Prior to that, Congo had won five games in a row, including their two-leg qualification against Chad. During the World Cup qualifiers that followed in March this year, Congo beat South Sudan 1-0 and Mauritania 2-0 away.

That was followed by friendly wins against Mali (1-0) and Madagascar (3-1). They Congo do have any hopes of progressing in the Africa Nations Championship, they will have to get a result, preferably a victory.

Sudan Form

This is Sudan’s first game of the tournament. Their most recent match was against South Sudan in March, that game ended 1-1 in the World Cup qualifiers.

In fact, Sudan have drawn their last three games, including a very impressive home 0-0 draw against Senegal during the World Cup qualifiers. They also held Oman to a 0-0 draw prior to that.

To reach CHAN, Sudan defeated Ethiopia home and away in qualification. They won 2-0 away and 2-1 at home in December 2024.
