Head to Head

Lesotho have the edge with two victories to one over Malawi, including three draws in six meetings across all competitions.

Lesotho defeated Malawi 2-1 in the 2022 Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup group stages. Additionally, the two nations drew 1-1 in a friendly international in March this year.

Malawi Form

Malawi kept their perfect record intact with a 2-0 victory over Comoros to finish top of Group B of the COSAFA Cup by winning all their games, setting up a semi-final clash against Lesotho.

Malawi took the lead through a penalty in the 30th minute of the match and doubled their tally six minutes later to go into the halftime break in control of the contest.

Malawi picked up a couple of injuries in the second period, as Comoros struggled to create many chances, handing the victory to the Flames.

They had 54% possession and ten shots in the match, with four attempts on target.

Malawi have won three fixtures in their last ten outings, including five draws and two losses.

The Flames' last five results across all competitions are drew, drew, won, won, and won, scoring six goals and conceding one. Additionally, they have kept four clean sheets in a row.

Malawi defeated Zambia, Seychelles and Comoros in this edition of the Hollywoodbets COSAFA Cup without conceding a goal, and they will fancy their chances to come out on top against a Lesotho side who leaked four goals in the previous match.

Patrick Mwaungulu was also on the scoresheet, securing his first goal in the competition; however, he came off injured in the second half and is a doubtful starter.

Christopher Kumwembe also came off injured against Comoros and is a doubtful starter.

Lesotho Form

Despite having the majority of possession and creating more chances, Lesotho were beaten 4-2 by Angola in their last COSAFA Cup group fixture, ending their chance to remain undefeated in the competition.

Lesotho had the perfect start, finding the back of the net after four minutes of play, but they could only hold into their lead for 15 minutes before Angola equalised.

Angola edged ahead for the first time in the game with a strike in the 28th minute of the match before Likuena drew level a minute before the half-time break.

Lesotho made three substitutions at the start of the second half; however, Angola extended their lead further with a goal in the 50th minute and grabbed their fourth goal three minutes from the end of time to seal the victory.

The Crocodiles had 59% possession and 14 shots in the game, with five on target.

Likuena have registered three wins of their last ten internationals, including six defeats and one draw.

Their last five results across all competitions are lost, lost, won, won, and lost, scoring five goals and conceding seven.

Lesotho beat Mauritius and Mozambique to nil in their opening two fixtures of Group C in the competition; however, they did not perform well at the back against Angola and will need to put in a solid defensive display against Malawi to get the result. Can they do it?
