The American also stretched her head-to-head dominance over Muchova to 5-0, once again finding answers when the match tightened.

With this run, Gauff became the youngest player to reach women’s Grand Slam quarterfinals for six straight years since Venus Williams and Martina Hingis.

After a stellar 2025 that included titles at Roland-Garros and Wuhan, Gauff has started 2026 strongly, winning seven of her first eight matches and carrying a 5-4 record in Slam quarterfinals.

Svitolina Form

Elina Svitolina booked her place in the Australian Open quarterfinals with commanding straight-set wins over Daria Shnaider and Mirra Andreeva. Her winning streak in 2026 now stands at nine matches.

The Ukrainian came into Melbourne in top form after lifting the Auckland title, beating Xinyu Wang in the final. It is her strongest start to a season since 2018.

Svitolina will be hoping to avoid a repeat of that 2018 Australian Open run, where she fell at the quarterfinal stage despite early momentum.

This is the 14th Grand Slam quarterfinal of her career, but she has reached only three semifinals so far. She is now chasing her first major last-four appearance since Wimbledon 2023.
