Pakistan vs England ODI Predictions – Nawaz to keep the runs flowing against England

Editor
Last updated: 15 minutes ago

Pakistan are favored to beat England again in the ongoing tri-series after impressive performances in their first two matches. Pakistan’s consistent batting and varied bowling attack have led them to wins over Sri Lanka and England. England, meanwhile, have shown explosive batting power but continue to struggle with bowling consistency, conceding a record chase versus Sri Lanka. With England likely considering changes to their bowling lineup, Pakistan are seen as the value pick for the upcoming clash.

  • Pakistan have won both their tri-series matches, including an 87-run victory over England in Rawalpindi.
  • Arafat Minhas scored 59 and took 6/40 against England.
  • England scored 429/4 against Sri Lanka on Thursday but still lost by two wickets.

Pakistan vs England Predictions

Pakistan are backed to beat England again at an attractive underdog price. The hosts have twice recovered from difficult positions to post totals over 300 while their attack has found wickets in high-pressure situations. England's batters have incredible power based on their enormous score of 429/4 against Sri Lanka, but considering their bowlers conceded 430 only two days after being bowled out for 215 leaves major questions about their balance and consistency.

  • Arafat Minhas scored 59 & took 6/40 in the 2nd ODI vs England.
  • Hasan Nawaz top-scored for Pakistan with 79 from 74 balls vs England.
  • Tom Banton has scored 73, 126, 57 & 50 in his last 4 knocks.
  • Harry Brook smashed 202 from 116 balls in the defeat to Sri Lanka.
  • Joe Root made 69 & Will Jacks 66 not out as England posted 429/4.
  • Sri Lanka chased 430/8 with one ball remaining to leave England winless after 2 matches.

Head-to-Head

Pakistan lost the last meeting between the two sides but England had won the previous four matches against Pakistan.

Pakistan Form

Pakistan have won both of their opening two matches in the tri-series after wins over Sri Lanka and England. Salman Agha's century drove the opening victory while Hasan Nawaz, Minhas and Faheem Ashraf rescued the innings against England.

Pakistan’s bowling attack has plenty of variety in the form of Shaheen Afridi, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah along with their spin options, while Minhas occupies the role of a major all-round threat.

England Form

England have lost both of their opening matches in the tri-series but their batting exploded against Sri Lanka as they cruised past the 400-run mark. Brook's 202, Root's 69, Banton's 50 and Jacks' unbeaten 66 powered England to an imposing score of 429/4, only for the bowling unit to concede the second-highest successful chase in ODI history.

In their previous match England’s inconsistency was highlighted by their collapse for 215 against Pakistan. England must decide whether to strengthen the attack, with Adil Rashid a likely consideration after sitting out the Sri Lanka match.

Team News

Pakistan have used an unchanged XI through their first two wins and have little reason for major changes. England may revisit their bowling combination after conceding 430 to Sri Lanka. Adil Rashid was part of the XI against Pakistan and could return after being rested in the latest game. Jos Buttler is unavailable for the tour and star bowler Jofra Archer is being rested.

Pakistan (possible XI): Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Saad Baig (wk), Salman Ali Agha, Hasan Nawaz, Arafat Minhas, Faheem Ashraf, Shaheen Shah Afridi (c), Naseem Shah, Haris Rauf.

England (possible XI): Tom Banton, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Harry Brook (c), Jordan Cox (wk), Will Jacks, Sam Curran, Liam Dawson, Gus Atkinson, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue.

Verdict

Pakistan are the value match-winner selection with Babar Azam their best best as their top batter. Harry Brook’s double ton makes him worth backing while Arafat Minas’ 6-for against England makes him worth backing with the ball.
