Both sides have struggled for wins in recent weeks, although South Africa have played against the stronger opposition. I’m backing the Proteas to win their opening match of the u19 World Cup as their batting and bowling is strong and has depth.

Afghanistan made it three defeats in a row when they lost to Pakistan and Zimbabwe.

Sameer Minhas was in great form with scores of 56, 48, 114 and 74 in his last four innings before suffering an injury that has put him out of the World Cup. Faisal Shinozada has scored 464 runs (ave 51.56) in his last 10 matches, while Osman Sadat as put together 347 runs (ave 38.56).

South Africa have lost their last five youth ODIs, the last three coming against the powerful India youth side.

Jason Rowles has been in rich form with the bat leading up to the tournament, scoring centuries against strong India and Australia lineups and chipping in with figures of 2/59 (econ 6.55) against India. Jorich van Schalkwyk is a highly rated, big-scoring opener, but he’s been short of runs since his 60* against India five matches ago. Daniel Bosman (31, 40 and 26) has been chipping in with runs consistently, as has Paul James (41 and 40).
