Last updated: 2 hours ago

I am predicting a win for the Perth Scorchers with Cooper Connolly set to excel as the top scorer. The odds are placed at 1.82 for the Scorchers' victory and 4.33 for Connolly being the top batter. This match promises excitement and high stakes action for cricket fans who are eager to see if these predictions hold true. The focus lies on Connolly's performance, as he is expected to lead the Scorchers to success with his batting prowess.

Brisbane Heat vs Perth Scorchers Predictions

The Scorchers chased 117 in a rain-reduced 11 overs for a win in their opener. The Heat fell 14 runs short after the Renegades smoked their attack for 212. Momentum is surely with the Scorchers.

  • Scorchers’ Cooper Connolly has scored 7, 47, 88 & 59 in his last 4 innings.
  • Perth Scorchers’ Mitchell Marsh averages 37.33 in the BBL.
  • Brisbane Heat’s Colin Munro hit five sixes in his 32-ball 55 against the Renegades.
  • Brisbane Heat’s Nathan McSweeney has scored 49, 68, 63 & 226* in his last 5 innings.

Head-to-Head

Perth Scorchers have won four and lost one of their last five Big Bash matches against Brisbane Heat, including the last two on the bounce. Their most recent meeting was in December 2024 when the Scorchers won by 33 runs.

Brisbane Heat Form

The Heat won their rain-reduced opener against the Sixers with five balls to spare. Brody Couch (2/12, econ 6.00) was the pick of their bowlers, reducing them to 41/4 in the 6th overs.

A late rally and some loose bowling ensured the Sixers set the Heat a challenging target, so their inexperienced attack will need to take serious notes after that performance.

The Scorchers blazed 10 sixes and five fours to account for 80 runs of their target of 114, so their six-hitting ability is notable. Cooper Connolly was in powerful form, smashing 59 at a strike-rate of 190.32.

Perth Scorchers Form

The Scorchers got off to a losing start after their attack was punished to the tune of 212 runs off 20 overs.

Shaheen Shah Afridi’s nightmare debut was compounded by two other Scorchers bowlers going for over 11 runs to the over. Jack Wildermuth (3/34) was their best bowler, knocking over three of the Renegade’s top five.

Colin Munro (55) was the only top five batter to pass 18, but great cameos from Hugh Weibgen (38* off 20) and Jimmy Peirson (50 off 22) kept them in the game. They ended 14 runs short and with two wickets in the bank.

Team News

Perth Scorchers: Coach Adam Voges has confirmed that Jhye Richardson will be in the side to face the Heat on Friday.

“Any time Jhye comes back into our line-up, we’re stronger for it. He’ll be a welcome addition,” said Voges, with Richardson certain to beef up the inexperienced Scorchers attack.

The Scorchers’ top-order is power-packed, hitting 60 of their 117 runs in sixes on the way to a five-wicket win.

“We wanted to build a batting line-up with power that bats deep and hopefully we can show that throughout the tournament,” added Voges.

Brisbane Heat: Shaheen Shah Afridi’s nightmare debut in Brisbane’s 14-run loss to the Melbourne Renegades (0-45 off 2.4 overs) which saw him removed for dangerous bowling is not a concern for his team-mates.

“With so much international experience, you can still get it wrong … when you bowl yorkers, sometimes you get it wrong. We’re not robots, we don’t always execute the way want to. No doubt that he’s a quality international player and he’ll bounce back. At training today, he trained so hard and it’s very impressive the way he’s carried himself on and off the field, and he’ll be looking forward to bouncing back on Friday, no doubt,” said team-mate Nathan McSweeney.

Verdict

I am backing the Scorchers to win, with Cooper Connolly to top score.
