The Caribbean Premier League has become one of the leading T20 leagues on the planet, exhibiting an array of local talent and cricketers from across the globe, with teams competing for the title across the Caribbean annually.

The overwhelming success of the Indian Premier League and Big Bash League prompted the creation of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) in 2013, intending to showcase the talent of West Indian cricketers, attracting leading international T20 players and large audiences to the stadiums.

The six teams that participated in the inaugural Caribbean Premier League season included the Antigua Hawksbills, Barbados Tridents, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St. Lucia Zouks, and Trinidad and Tobago Steel, with the Jamaica Tallawahs emerging as the first champions of the competition.

The six-country-based franchises of the Caribbean Premier League allow a maximum of four foreign players and at least four local cricketers under the age of 23 in their squads.

St. Lucia, St. Kitts, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, and Guyana typically host the CPL. Each country hosts six league matches across four days, including one country hosting the playoffs.

The teams that finish first and second on the log play a qualifier to see who will make the final of the CPL, with the third and fourth placed sides playing an eliminator to decide who will face the loser of the first qualifier.

The loser of the first qualifier and winner of the eliminator play an additional qualifier to see who will reach the final of the Caribbean Premier League.

Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, and Andre Russell have all played a part in making the Caribean Premier League a success as they did in the IPL and the Big Bash League.
