Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Predictions

The Sixers slipped ahead of the Hurricanes in the final Big Bash table, but their top-order is battling to string runs together. The Hurricanes have come through a three-run Knockout win over the Stars, so they are in good form, with a strong top order and should see off the challenge from the Sixers.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Beau Webster hit three sixes in his 26-ball 47 against the Stars.
  • Hobart Hurricanes’ Nikhil Chaudhary has scored 29*, 23, 16 & 24 in his last 4 innings.
  • Sydney Sixers’ Steve Smith has scored 100, 54 & 36 in his 3 Big Bash innings.
  • Sydney Sixers’ Babar Azam has scored 58, 58* & 47 in his last 7 Big Bash innings.

Head-to-Head

The Hurricanes have won two and lost two of their last five Big Bash matches against the Sixers. Their most recent match was rained-off.

Hobart Hurricanes Form

In a severely rain-reduced contest the Hurricanes saw off a brave chase from the Stars to secure their path through to the Challenger.

The Hurricanes hit out boldly to post 114/5 off their 10 overs, with Beau Webster scoring 47 off 26 balls. Nikhil Chaudhary (303 runs in the season) smashed 24 off 11 balls. Ben McDermott scored just 12 off seven balls on the back of a 36-ball 59 against the Heat.

Nathan Ellis has taken 3/30, 2/44, 2/7 and 2/30 in his last five matches and is the Hurricanes’ leading bowler with 14 wickets. Rishad Hossain is on 13 wickets, with figures of 3/26 and 2/27 in his last three matches.

Sydney Sixers Form

After winning three matches on the bounce the Sixers suffered a 48-run loss to the Scorchers in the Qualifier.

Steve Smith has lit up his side’s challenge for the playoffs and is averaging 70.00 with the bat. The Sixers top-order has not been hitting their straps, with only three batters having passed 200 runs and only Steve Smith averaging more than 28.00.

Mitchell Starc (2/32, econ 8.00), Ben Dwarshuis (2/23, econ 5.75) and Jack Edwards (2/25, econ 6.25) bowled superbly to restrict the Scorchers to 147/9 off their 20 overs. Edwards is third on the wickets list with 17 scalps at an economy rate of 7.89.

Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers Team News

Hobart Hurricanes skipper Ben McDermott admitted that their win over the Stars was far too close for his liking: "The heart-rate was definitely going up in that last over. Chris Jordan had a little niggle on his calf and I think he strained it a little bit more running between the wickets at the end. Hopefully he pulls up alright for the next game. It was good to get the game in and a nice result for us in the end. I'm pretty sure that Nathan will be OK for Sydney," said McDermott.

Hobart Hurricanes (squad): Rehan Ahmed, Iain Carlisle, Nikhil Chaudhary, Nathan Ellis, Rishad Hossain, Chris Jordan, Ben McDermott, Riley Meredith, Mitchell Owen, Billy Stanlake, Matthew Wade, Jake Weatherald, Beau Webster, Macalister Wright, Tim Ward, Will Prestwidge, Jackson Bird, Hugo Burdon, Charlie Wakim.

Sydney Sixers (squad): Sean Abbott, Babar Azam, Joel Davies, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Daniel Hughes, Moises Henriques, Hayden Kerr, Ben Manenti, Josh Philippe, Lachlan Shaw, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc.

Verdict

I am backing the Hurricanes to win, with Beau Webster to top score.
