The Hurricanes have come through a three-run Knockout win over the Stars, so they are in good form, with a strong top order and should see off the challenge from the Sixers.

In a severely rain-reduced contest the Hurricanes saw off a brave chase from the Stars to secure their path through to the Challenger.

The Hurricanes hit out boldly to post 114/5 off their 10 overs, with Beau Webster scoring 47 off 26 balls. Nikhil Chaudhary (303 runs in the season) smashed 24 off 11 balls. Ben McDermott scored just 12 off seven balls on the back of a 36-ball 59 against the Heat.

Steve Smith has lit up his side’s challenge for the playoffs and is averaging 70.00 with the bat. The Sixers top-order has not been hitting their straps, with only three batters having passed 200 runs and only Steve Smith averaging more than 28.00.

Mitchell Starc (2/32, econ 8.00), Ben Dwarshuis (2/23, econ 5.75) and Jack Edwards (2/25, econ 6.25) bowled superbly to restrict the Scorchers to 147/9 off their 20 overs. Edwards is third on the wickets list with 17 scalps at an economy rate of 7.89.

Hobart Hurricanes skipper Ben McDermott admitted that their win over the Stars was far too close for his liking: "The heart-rate was definitely going up in that last over. Chris Jordan had a little niggle on his calf and I think he strained it a little bit more running between the wickets at the end. Hopefully he pulls up alright for the next game. It was good to get the game in and a nice result for us in the end. I'm pretty sure that Nathan will be OK for Sydney," said McDermott.
