Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Women Predictions - Athapaththu to keep playoff window open with win over Bangladesh

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

In the upcoming Women's World Cup clash, Sri Lanka Women, still searching for their first win, face Bangladesh, who have tasted victory against Pakistan. Despite Sri Lanka losing to South Africa after rain disruptions impacted their World Cup run, they anticipate a stronger performance in their final matches. Meanwhile, Bangladesh's morale, hit by four consecutive losses, hinges on top players like Sobhana Mostary and Rubya Haider. Sri Lanka is tipped for a win, with Chamari Athapaththu expected to excel, though Bangladesh remains a threat.

Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh Women Predictions

Sri Lanka are winless in the World Cup, while Bangladesh have a win under their belt (against Pakistan). Sri Lanka have already played all of the top teams, so their last two games are matches they have a good chance of winning and I think they will bring their A-game to the party.

  • Sri Lanka Women’s Chamari Athapaththu has scored 43 & 53 in her last 4 innings.
  • Sri Lanka Women’s Hasini Perera has scored 34, 35 & 44 in her last 5 innings.
  • Bangladesh Women’s Sobhana Mostary has scored 24*, 60 & 66* in her last 5 innings.
  • Bangladesh Women’s Rubya Haider has scored 54*, 25 & 44 in her last 5 innings.

Head-to-Head

Sri Lanka have won two of the four WODIs they have played against Bangladesh. The other two matches were rained-off.

Sri Lanka Women Form

Sri Lanka lost their third match of the World Cup to South Africa by 10 wickets after a serious rain delay. They have had two matches in the tournament already rained off.

South Africa’s strong bowling attack throttled the Sri Lankan batters, restricting them to 105/7 off their rain-reduced 20 overs. Vishmi Gunaratne (34 off 33 balls) was the best of the Sri Lanka batters.

With rain threatening the Proteas put their foot on the gas, hitting the winning runs with 5.1 overs to spare and 10 wickets in hand. Malki Madara (0/14, econ 4.66) was the best of the Sri Lanka bowlers.

Sri Lanka Women Team News

Sri Lanka need to beef up their batting, possibly with an extra batter or switching a specialist bowler for an all-rounder.

Bangladesh Women Form

After winning their opening match of the tournament, Bangladesh lost their next four matches, the last of which was a 10-wicket defeat against Australia.

Rubya Haider (44 off 59) and Sobhana Mostary (66* off 80) took the fight to Australia as Bangladesh did well to post 198/9 off their 50 overs.

Australia raced to the win with half of their overs in hand and without the loss of a wicket. Nishita Akter Nishi (0/24, econ 6.00) was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers.

Bangladesh Women Team News

Bangladesh have played some excellent cricket. To qualify for the semis they will need to beat Sri Lanka and India, which would seem improbable. Will they have the required motivation to raise themselves after four defeats in a row?

Verdict

I am backing Sri Lanka Women to win. I am also backing Chamari Athapaththu to top score for Sri Lanka Women.

Sobhana Mostary is a good bet to top score for the Bangladesh Women.
