Australia were well beaten in the first ODI but remain favourites for the second game. While the hosts are sure to improve, there is value on backing the Proteas to seal the series with a win.

Australia find themselves 1-0 down in the series and must win this 2nd ODI if they are to still win the series.

After winning the toss in the first ODI, the hosts sent South Africa into bat. Travis Head took 4-57 in nine overs, but the visitors went on to score 296 in their 50 overs.

Travis Head and Mitchell Marsh put on a 60-run opening stand, setting the tempo perfectly for a successful chase. However, once the first wicket fell, they dropped like flies and found themselves at 89-6. Marsh scored 88 runs, but the Aussies were all out for 198.

Australia are likely to rotate their side and that was regardless of the result in the opening game.

South Africa Form

South Africa will be pleased with their dominant win in the first ODI. They can now seal the series with a win in the second game.

Batting first, the top four contributed with Aiden Markram top scoring with 82 runs. Ryan Rickelton scored 33, Temba Bavuma 65 and Matthew Breetzke 57 in a total of 296.

After Australia made a strong start in the chase, Keshav Maharaj stepped up for his best ODI bowling figures, taking 5-33 in 10 overs. At one point, he had taken 5-9 as Australia collapsed to 198 all out.

Prenelan Subrayen won’t feature after he was reported for a suspect bowling action. There may be a couple more changes through rotations.
