Durban's Super Giants vs Joburg Super Kings Predictions - Conway to thrash the Super Kings

Editor
Last updated: 1 hour ago

Durban's Super Giants are set to face Joburg Super Kings in a highly anticipated match. Both teams come into this game with recent wins, but the Super Giants, bolstered by the form of Devon Conway and Kane Williamson, are predicted to outgun the Kings. Joburg's Rilee Rossouw and Wiaan Mulder have been pivotal in their victories, while Duan Jansen's bowling has been instrumental. Head-to-head, the Super Giants have a slight edge with three wins in their last five encounters against the Kings. This match promises to be a closely contested affair.

Durban's Super Giants vs Joburg Super Kings Predictions

The Super Kings pulled off a comfortable win over the Pretoria Capitals in their opener, and their top-order is looking strong. The Super Giants’ top-order is on fire, so I can see them outgunning the Super Kings.

  • Durban's Super Giants’ Devon Conway scored 64 off 33 balls and 24* off 13 balls in his first two innings in the SA20.
  • Durban's Super Giants’ Kane Williamson hit 7 fours in his 25-ball 40 vs MI Cape Town.
  • Joburg Super Kings’ Rilee Rossouw hit 3 sixes and 5 fours in his 48 vs the Capitals.
  • Joburg Super Kings’ Wiaan Mulder scored 43 off 28 balls vs the Super Kings.

Head-to-Head

Durban's Super Giants have won three and lost two of their last five SA20 matches against the Joburg Super Kings.

Durban's Super Giants Form

After winning their opener, the Super Giants were frustrated by the weather as their return clash against MI Cape Town was rained out with the Super Giants on 37/0 off four overs.

Devon Conway (24* off 13) and Kane Williamson again got their side off to a flier before the rains came down. The pair had added 96 for the first wicket in under nine overs in their opening win over MI Cape Town. The middle-order all showed their style, Jos Buttler scoring 20 off 12 balls, Heinrich Klaasen 22 off 14, Aiden Markram 35 off 17 and Evan Jones 33* off 14.

MI Cape Town put up a brave fight but couldn't contend with Eathan Bosch (4/46), who ran through three of the home side's top four. Noor Ahmad (0/38, econ 9.50) and David Wiese (1/39, econ 9.75) did their part in clinching a victory over the defending champions on their home turf.

Joburg Super Kings Form

The Super Kings picked up their first win at Supersport Park when they beat the Pretoria Capitals by 22 runs in their opening match of the SA20 season.

Rilee Rossouw hit a sweet 33-ball 48 with 5 four and 3 sixes in a 78-run stand for the third wicket with Wiaan Mulder (43 off 28). Akeal Hosein (22* off 10) slammed 2 sixes and a four at the end of the innings to lift his side to 168/6 off their 20 overs.

Duan Jansen secured career-best figures of 4/23 to demolish the Capitals, who collapsed to 146/9 after a 1st wicket stand of 71. The Capitals lost five wickets for 18 runs as Jansen ran through four of their top six batters (econ 5.75). Richard Gleeson weighed in with 2/33.

Durban's Super Giants vs Joburg Super Kings Team News

Super Kings skipper Faf du Plessis was delighted with his team’s performance in their opening match, highlighting Rilee Rossouw and Wiaan Mulder.

“It was a bit tricky and spicy with the new ball - just the maturity with their batting to hang in there and build a partnership. They're the reason we got a decent total. Probably felt we were about 15 light considering how they batted. But that partnership for me was key, and then we saw what the wicket was doing so the plans were pretty straightforward. How you adapt to the conditions is key, so really we got a fighting, hardworking, favourite kind of win," said Du Plessis after the match.
