The Royals’ top order failed to fire again as they lost to the Super Giants by 58 runs. Bjorn Fortuin top-scored with 35* off 24 balls batting at number eight, with Kyle Verreynne (23) and Sikander Raza (21) chipping in with runs while the rest of the Royals batters faltered.

Hardus Viljoen returned superb figures of 4/21 (econ 5.25) against the Super Giants following back-to-back returns of 2/25 and 2/17 against the Capitals. Leading wicket-taker Ottneil Baartman (1/35, econ 11.66) took some tap, as did 3rd-placed bowler Sikander Raza, whose run of great bowling ended after his four overs were smashed for 57 runs (econ 14.25).

The Super Kings have lost their last four completed matches, the most recent being a 21-run defeat to the Capitals.

The Super Kings' poor form continued in their last match, which could have secured their place in the playoffs. After Daniel Worrall (2/12, econ 3.00) and Wiaan Mulder (2/34, econ 8.50) had reduced the Capitals to just seven runs for the loss of five wickets, they allowed the visitors to recover and post 143/6 off their 20 overs.

Super Kings skipper Donovan Ferreira is an injury concern ahead of this clash after being forced to retire after facing just one ball in the run chase against the Capitals.

“I'll go for a scan in the morning and take it from there. We tried to keep striking with the ball but credit to Brevis and Sherfane for how they absorbed the pressure. It's tough playing on a wicket like that where you don't really know what you're going to get. They played well to reach a competitive score, but the surface wasn't easy. I think the total they reached was chaseable if we had gotten off to a good start. However, the wicket was turning and Keshav and Chase bowled really well. As I said, it's a difficult pitch to play on and if you keep losing wickets in a chase, it's hard,” said Ferreira.

“We know the venue in Paarl is a spinning wicket where a lot of balls get hit. It's about assessing the conditions, speaking to the coaches, and getting a game plan in place. This tournament is back to back, so there isn't much time to reflect. It's a different venue, so we just need to focus on those specific plans," added Ferreira.
