Pretoria Capitals vs MI Cape Town Predictions - Rickelton to take on the Capitals on home turf

Last updated: 11 Jan 2026

In the upcoming SA20 cricket league matchup, Pretoria Capitals and MI Cape Town face off with playoff implications on the line. The Capitals need just one more win to secure a playoff spot, while MI Cape Town requires two to three victories. MI Cape Town enters the game with momentum from back-to-back wins, notably featuring outstanding performances by Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen. Rickelton leads the SA20 runs list and will be key in the upcoming must-win match. The Capitals boast players like Shai Hope and Sherfane Rutherford, known for their strategic batting.

Pretoria Capitals vs MI Cape Town Predictions

The Capitals could qualify for the playoffs with just one more win, while MI Cape Town have to win twice and possibly even all three of their last three matches. Not a lot to choose from in this clash with both sides coming into the match with back-to-back wins. I’m backing MI Cape Town to rise to the challenge of defending their title by reaching the playoffs, and this is a must-win match for them.

  • MI Cape Town’s Ryan Rickelton (317 runs, ave 63.40) is 1st in the SA20 runs list.
  • MI Cape Town’s Rassie van der Dussen has scored 28, 59, 35 & 65 in his last 5 innings.
  • Pretoria Capitals’ Shai Hope has scored 36, 45, 118* & 22 in his last 4 innings.
  • Pretoria Capitals’ Sherfane Rutherford has scored 47*, 47* & 42* in his last 4 innings.

Head-to-Head

MI Cape Town have won three and lost two of their last five SA20 matches against Pretoria Capitals.

Pretoria Capitals Form

The Capitals were in run-scoring form as they beat the Super Giants and the Royals in consecutive matches to hit three wins from seven matches.

Shai Hope (S/R 150.99) and Sherfane Rutherford (S/R 173.11) have kept their side in the running thanks to their quick runs. The rest of the top order have failed to fire consistently throughout the series, although Connor Esterhuizen scored 62 and 37 in his last three knocks, while Wihan Lubbe has contributed 60 and 21 in his last three times at bat.

Keshav Maharaj produced a magnificent spell of bowling to defend his side’s score of 138 against the big-hitting Royals (2/14, econ 3.50). Maharaj, Tymal Mills and Lungi Ngidi are joint ninth on the wickets lists with five wickets apiece.

MI Cape Town Form

MI Cape Town bounced back from three defeats on the trot to secure back-to-back wins over the Super Kings.

Rassie van der Dussen (65 off 32) and Ryan Rickelton (113* off 60) added 129 for the 1st wicket against the Super Kings in a must-win game that setup the victory. The pair have both found run-scoring form at the perfect time to guide their side towards the playoffs.

George Linde (2/30, econ 7.50) and Kagiso Rabada (2/34, econ 8.50) pinned the Super Kings batters back to setup the win. Corbin Bosch is MI Cape Town’s leading bowler with seven wickets this season, followed by Linde (6 wickets), Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada (five wickets each).

Pretoria Capitals vs MI Cape Town Team News

Pretoria Capitals skipper Keshav Maharaj praised Sherfane Rutherford’s match-saving 42* against the Royals: "Rutherford's been a stalwart of the batting unit. Coming in at the back end and giving us huge totals... long may his form continue. Ngidi set the tone. It was a proper team effort at the end of the day," said Maharaj.

Rutherford admitted that it was a tough pitch to bat on. “Key for me was to take it deep. The best chance to play was taking it deep. One thing it teaches you is to spend time. It's important to give yourself the best chance; anything can happen in the back-end," added Rutherford.

MI Cape Town opener Ryan Rickelton was Player of the Match in his side’s crucial win over the Super Kings. “Great win, great night out and a great partnership with Rassie. Nice to do it at my real home ground. It was a special night - really chuffed to get a win,” said Rickelton.

Pretoria Capitals (possible XI): Keshav Maharaj (c), Jordan Cox (w), Connor Esterhuizen (w), Shai Hope (w), Dewald Brevis, Wihan Lubbe, Sherfane Rutherford, Roston Chase, Lungi Ngidi, Gideon Peters, Lizaad Williams.

MI Cape Town (possible XI): MI Cape Town: Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickelton (w), Nicholas Pooran, Jason Smith, Jacques Snyman, Karim Janat, George Linde, Rashid Khan (c), Kagiso Rabada, Trent Boult, Corbin Bosch.
