The upcoming cricket match has experts leaning toward a victory for the Perth Scorchers, with key player Finn Allen expected to lead the scoring chart. The prediction arises from the players' recent performances and team dynamics. Meanwhile, for the Sydney Thunder, Matthew Gilkes is identified as a standout performer with the potential to excel as the Best Batter for the team. This match-up promises thrilling performances, with significant implications for both teams in the series standings.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers Predictions

Both sides will be suffering a lack of confidence after failing to pick up more than one win so far this season. The Scorchers have more players who are contributing so they look like the team to back in this clash.

  • Perth Scorchers’ Finn Allen has scored 16, 79 & 43 in his 3 innings in the BBL this season.
  • Perth Scorchers’ Cooper Connolly scored 77 off 37 balls against the Heat.
  • Sydney Thunder’s Matthew Gilkes hit two sixes in his 13-ball 24 against the Stars.
  • Sydney Thunder’s Sam Billings has scored 51, 25 & 23 in his last 3 innings.

Head-to-Head

Perth Scorchers have won three and lost two of their last five Big Bash matches against Sydney Thunder, including the last two on the bounce.

Sydney Thunder Form

The Thunder suffered their third defeat in four matches when they lost to the Stars by nine wickets with 36 balls remaining.

Shadab Khan has also been in good form with the bat, scoring 34, 41 and 25 in his three innings this season. Sam Konstas has shown glimpses of his immense talent, with innings of 28 and 63 off 45 balls, while Cameron Bancroft’s opening match 61 has been followed by innings of just 7 and 10.

Shadab Khan has also been his side’s leading light with the ball, returning figures of 2/36 and 4/24, while in the loss to the Stars his four overs cost just 24 runs (econ 6.00). Reece Topley took 3/41 against the Sixers and Daniel Sams 2/25 against the Heat, but in general their bowlers have struggled this season.

Perth Scorchers Form

After winning their opener, the Scorchers lost their next two matches, the most recent being a 4-wicket defeat to the Hurricanes with three balls to spare.

Finn Allen is looking dangerous again out in the middle and Cooper Connolly has been in superb form this season, with innings of 47, 88, 59 and 77 in his last five innings. Aaron Hardie has made lots of good starts and a big innings should be just around the corner. Mitchell Marsh’s prolific whiteball form over the last two years has evaded him of late, but it would be premature to write him off just yet.

Cooper Connolly turned in a superb spell against the Hurricanes, knocking over three of their top four to take 3/23. Brody Couch took 2/12 (econ 6.00) against the Sixers to set up his side’s only win of the season.

Sydney Thunder vs Perth Scorchers Team News

Allrounder Tom Andrews has been drafted back into the Thunder match day squad in place of Aidan O’Connor.

“It hasn’t been the start to the season any of us has wanted. With two home games in a row in short succession we believe we can get back to winning ways. Our best is definitely good enough against anyone, it just hasn’t all clicked at once. I believe we will see that tomorrow night back at home in front of a packed crowd,” said Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland.

The Scorchers have left out Bryce Jackson in place of Josh Inglis, who has been released from Australia’s Ashes Test squad ahead of the 5th Test.

Sydney Thunder (squad): Sydney Thunder: David Warner (C), Tom Andrews, Cameron Bancroft, Sam Billings, Chris Green, Matt Gilkes, Ryan Hadley, Shadab Khan, Sam Konstas, Nathan McAndrew, Blake Nikitaras, Daniel Sams, Tanveer Sangha, Reece Topley

Perth Scorchers (squad): Ashton Turner (c), Ashton Agar, Finn Allen, Mahli Beardman, Cooper Connolly, Brody Couch, Laurie Evans, Sam Fanning, Aaron Hardie, Nick Hobson, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Marsh, Joel Paris, Corey Rocchiccioli.
