The Strikers lost their opening two matches in last over thrillers, so this could be a case of third time lucky. The Thunder lost their opening game in a last ball thriller, but all but one of their bowlers went for over 8.00 runs to the over, so I’m backing the Sixers to cash in against their derby rivals.

Sam Konstas has been rediscovering his run-scoring touch, but he is struggling to score quickly. His opening partner Matthew Gilkes got off to a flyer, slashing 20 off just seven balls in their opener, with three fours and a six. Cameron Bancroft has been in good run-scoring nick, but also needs to up the tempo to help his side push up to the 200-run mark.

Their bowlers failed to defend a competitive target of 181 in their opener, with only Tanveer Sangha (1/26, econ 6.50) going for less than 8.25 runs an over.

Babar Azam’s good form on the sub-continent hasn’t yet translated to runs in Australia, kicking off with scores of 2 and 9. Josh Philippe (46 off 28 balls) and Jack Edwards (32 off 21) both scored at over 152/100 balls, which is a promising sign if the rest of the top-order can fire.

Jack Edwards (2/27, econ 6.75) was the pick of the Sixers’ attack, backed by a tight spell from Jafer Chohan (1/28, econ 7.00), the latter a 23-year-old right-arm leggie with an economy rate of 6,75 runs per over after his first five games in the Big Bash.
