After picking up the first win of their Vitality Blast campaign, I am backing the Bears to be too good for Derbyshire, who are on a three-match losing streak.

  • Bears’ Alex Davies has scored 40 & 65 in his last 3 innings.
  • Derbyshire’s Wayne Madsen has scored 100 & 35 in his last 4 innings.
  • Derbyshire’s Aneurin Donald hit five sixes in his 22-ball 50 against Nottinghamshire.

After losing their first two matches of the season, the Bears pulled off a six-wicket win over Yorkshire to get their season started. 

Yorkshire started well but were soon struggling against excellent bowling from Danny Briggs (2/28, econ 7.00), Jake Lintott (2/30, econ 10.00) and Moeen Ali (2/30, econ 7.50). They ended on 164/7 off their 20 overs.

The Bears got off to a great start, Tom Latham (44 off 35 balls) and Alex Davies (65 off 45 balls) adding 103 for the first wicket inside 12 overs. Sam Hain (24* off 12 balls) saw his side home to a six-wicket win with an over to spare.

Derbyshire suffered their third defeat in three matches when they lost to Nottinghamshire by seven wickets on the D/L Method.   

Aneurin Donald (50 off 22 balls) and Wayne Madsen (35 off 35 balls) got the Derbyshire innings off to a good start, but the rest of their batters struggled to up the tempo and they ended their 20 overs on 162/9. 

Rain reduced the Derbyshire innings to 15 overs. Ben Aitchison (1/10, econ 5.00) struck an early blow for Derbyshire, but Notts recovered to hit their target with seven wickets and seven balls to spare.

Derbyshire desperately need a win to stay in the hunt for the playoffs, and they will need a big performance from their batters and bowlers.
