Last updated: 1 hour ago

India and New Zealand face off in the highly anticipated ICC World Cup Final with both teams showcasing impressive recent performances. India comes in strong with back-to-back wins and in-form players like Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube. New Zealand, after a solid victory over South Africa, is buoyed by performances from Finn Allen and Tim Seifert. The match promises an electrifying showdown as India looks to leverage their balanced squad against an unpredictable New Zealand side. Precedent favors India, having won four of their last five T20Is against New Zealand.

New Zealand vs India Predictions

New Zealand have had an up-and-down World Cup, but when they are hot they are scorching. India have the better-balanced squad with more players in form, so I’m backing them to take the World Cup title again.

  • India’s Sanju Samson has scored 22, 24, 97* & 89 in his last 4 innings.
  • India’s Shivam Dube has scored 66, 42 & 43* in his last 3 innings.
  • New Zealand’s Finn Allen (289 runs, S/R 203.52) is 1st in the World Cup strike rate list.
  • New Zealand’s Tim Seifert hit nine boundaries in his 33-ball 58 against South Africa.

Head-to-Head

India have won four and lost one of their last five T20Is against New Zealand.

India Form

India made it three wins on the bounce after being beaten by South Africa in their first game in the Super 8s. They clinched their spot in the final with a dramatic win over England in the semi-final.

Sanju Samson continued his rich vein of form, slamming 89 off just 42 balls as India posted 253/7 off their 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan (39 off 18) and Shivam Dube (43 off 25) offered good support at the top of the order, while Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma each added fast 20s.

England were struggling to keep up with the asking rate at 95/4 in the 8th over but rallied late in the innings as they posted a brilliant response of 246/7 off their 20 overs.

Four bowlers picked up one wicket in the England innings, while Hardik Pandya (2/38) enjoyed double success. Jasprit Bumrah (1/33, econ 8.25) was the most economical of the Indian bowlers.

New Zealand Form

New Zealand bounced back from a four-wicket defeat to England by defeating unbeaten South Africa by nine wickets in their World Cup semi-final clash.

New Zealand’s bowlers rocked the in-form Proteas top-order, reducing them to 77/5 in the 11th over, with Cole McConchie (2/9) picking up two of the Proteas’ top three batters in his one over.

Rachin Ravindra was again among the wickets, picking up 2/29 (econ 7.25), while Matt Henry chipped in with two late wickets as the Proteas recovered enough to post 169/8 through some powerful lower-order hitting.

Tim Seifert (58 off 33) and Finn Allen (100* off 33) were at their belligerent best, destroying the South African attack as they chased down their target off just 12.5 overs.

New Zealand vs India Team News & Squads

New Zealand’s Player of the Match against South Africa was batting hero Finn Allen.

“Their boys hit the ball hard, so to get one over them is a huge confidence booster for us going into Sunday. They’ve been the in-form team the whole tournament,” said Allen during the post-match interviews.

“As a nation, I think hopefully everyone gets behind us and rallies around us for Sunday. Obviously it’s a difficult time for people to watch back home but I’m sure people were keeping tabs on the game and hopefully they can get up and have a Monday off at work and watch the final,” added Allen.

India skipper Suryakumar Yadav was delighted that his side had made it into the final for a second tournament in a row.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling playing in India and leading an unbelievable side. Samson knew what he knew right when he went in and the team required it from him,” said Yadav during the post-match presentation.

“They were always in the chase, but the way the bowlers pulled the game away was unbelievable. You know how capable Bumrah is. The boys are responding well. Guys have been going the extra yard and that's showing up. Going for the title in India there will be pressure, but the players and support staff will be excited,” added Yadav.

New Zealand (possible XI): Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Mitchell Santner, James Neesham, Cole McConchie, Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson.

India (possible XI): Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Jasprit Bumrah.

Verdict

I am backing India to win. I am also backing Sanju Samson to top score for India.

Finn Allen is a good bet to top score for New Zealand.
