South Africa vs New Zealand Women Predictions
South Africa beat Australia in their semi-final, ending an incredible run of 17 wins in a row for Australia since the last time they lost a match, which was a WODI against South Africa. The Proteas are in far better form than New Zealand and I’m backing them to become the first senior South African side to lift a Cricket World Cup trophy (finally!).
- South Africa Women’s Anneke Bosch has scored 25 & 74* in her last 2 innings.
- South Africa Women’s Laura Wolvaardt has scored 59*, 42, 40 & 42 in her last 5 innings.
- New Zealand Women’s Georgia Plimmer has scored 34, 53 & 33 in her last 5 innings.
- New Zealand Women’s Suzie Bates has scored 27, 20, 28 & 26 in her last 5 innings.
Head-to-Head
The two teams have played 16 times, with New Zealand winning on 11 occasions and South Africa on four occasions, with one match ending in a no-result. Three of their last five matches were washed out, with New Zealand winning one match and South Africa winning the most recent match, which was an 11-run win back in October 15.
South Africa Women Form
South Africa comprehensively outplayed defending champs Australia in the semi-final to earn a place in the final for the second time in a row.
Marizanne Kapp (1/24, econ 6.00) and Ayabonga Khaka (2/24, econ 6.00) struck early to put Australia on the back foot, keeping them under control until a late burst lifted them to 134/5.
Laura Wolvaardt (42 off 37 balls) and Tazmin Brits (15) got the Proteas off to a good start before Anneke Bosch (74 off 48 balls) joined her skipper for a 96-run partnership in 10.5 overs that tore the Aussie attack apart. Brits secured the win with 16 balls to spare and eight wickets in hand.
South Africa Women Team News
South Africa’s only appearance in the final was in 2023, when they lost at home to Australia. Their top three are all in incredible form, but their middle order had been very reliable in recent months, and their bowling has also been magnificent. If they stay focused and don’t let the weight of expectation of their nation get to them, then they should beat New Zealand with an over or two to spare.
New Zealand Women Form
New Zealand held off a late charge from the West Indies to clinch a spot in their third T20 World Cup final.
Georgia Plimmer (33) top-scored as New Zealand battled their way to 128/9 off their 20 overs.
Eden Carson (3/29) knocked over three of the West Indies top-four to put the West Indies on the back foot until Deandra Dottin slammed three sixes to keep the West Indies in the hunt. Their lower order kept the runs flowing but they ended up eight runs short.
New Zealand Women Team News
New Zealand have made it to the final of the Women’s T20 Cricket World Cups twice, and both times they were runners-up, first to England (2009) and then the West Indies (2010).
Verdict
I am backing South Africa Women to win. I am also backing Anneke Bosch to top score for South Africa Women.
Georgia Plimmer is a good bet to top score for the New Zealand Women.
