Afghanistan vs West Indies Predictions

Afghanistan have secured the series against the West Indies after completing a 38-run win followed by a 39-run win. The West Indies are fronting up well to a strong Afghanistan side but I don’t see them having the extra bit in the tank needed to claim a win in the final match of the series.

Afghanistan’s top-order have all been making runs and are looking settled. Ibrahim Zadran is enjoying the best form, scoring 52, 57*, 60, 87* and 22 in his last five matches. Sediqullah Atal has scored 66 and 53 in his last six matches. Rahmanullah Gurbaz has been in good form over the past year, scoring 72, 25, 31 and 51 in his last 10 innings.

The Afghanistan bowlers are in superb form, with Mujeeb Ur Rahman capturing 2/22, 2/29 and 4/21 in his last three matches. Fazalhaq Farooqi has taken 2/30, 2/33 and 2/28 in his last three bowling innings.

West Indies Form

West Indies have lost their last four completed T20Is on the bounce, with the last three by fairly large margins.

Brandon King is enjoying a great run of form and will hope to build on his 41-ball 50 in the 2nd T20I. Shimron Hetmyer’s nuclear-powered innings of 46 off 17 balls was preceded by scores of 48 and 22 over the past two months. Gudakesh Motie scored 65 and 28 in his last two completed innings. The lack of runs from Evin Lewis and Alick Athanaze will be a concern for team management.

Johnson Charles has scored 43, 43 and 27 in his last four knocks. Matthew Forde has taken 1/51 and 2/25 in the two T20Is against Afghanistan. Shamar Joseph has taken 2/18, 2/19 and 1/35 in his last four matches. Ramon Simmonds picked up 4/15 against Nepal and 1/39 in the 2nd T20I against Afghanistan.

Afghanistan skipper Rashid Khan praised the efforts of the West Indies side, despite losing to Afghanistan. “It was a different challenge. The West Indies are special in the T20 format and we had to come back as a team after a bad Asia Cup. This prep will help us in the World Cup and in these conditions length and line is important. The middle-order partnership makes me happy and that's the area we were working on till the 14th over. You have to put the effort till the last ball, something that we did today,” said Rashid.

Brandon King, the captain of the West Indies side, had high praise for Shimron Hetmyer’s breathtaking innings of 46 off just 17 balls. “Hetty played a fantastic innings, but after he got out I had to be the person finishing it. The fielding has been a disappointment but that's something we keep working on. As professionals, we will look to improve tomorrow. We were just trying to target the short boundary with the left-right combination,” said King.
