England vs South Africa Preview

Dewald Brevis was superb in the final two T20I matches against Australia recently. I am backing him and the other young Proteas batsmen to take the side to victory.

  • South Africa lost their last T20I series 2-1 in Australia.
  • South Africa’s Dewald Brevis has scored 100+ & 50+ runs in his last 2 T20I matches.
  • South Africa have won 4 of their last 5 T20I matches against England.

Head to Head

South Africa have won four of their last five T20I games against England. The last of which was during the T20I World Cup in June 2024 - South Africa won that by seven runs.

England Form

England beat the West Indies at home in their last T20I series a couple of months back. That series ended 3-0 with the home batsmen largely dominant throughout.

While England lost the ODI series to South Africa, the third match where they scored over 400 and then secured the biggest ever ODI victory over the Proteas will give them some confidence.

In their last T20I game, England smashed 248 runs in Southampton batting first. Jamie Smith scored 60 and Ben Duckett 84 in 120-run opening stand.

England News

England may look to give a few players a rest during this series after a very busy summer for the players. However, they are also building towards the T20 World Cup and trying to find the right balance within the side.

South Africa Form

South Africa’s ODI form has been very good, winning 2-1 in Australia and England. However, in both series they lost the final game by humiliating margins.

They lost the T20I series 2-1 in Australia though and will want to get back to winning ways here. There are a few newcomers to the side, trying to find their place in the team and some of them have already made a mark.

One to watch here will be Dewald Brevis who scored his maiden T20I century in the second T20I against the Aussies.

South Africa News

Aiden Markram leads the side which sees David Miller return to the squad after being given a break for the ODIs. Donovan Ferreira is another exciting batsman to keep an eye on while Kagiso Rabada, Marco Janse, Lungi Ngidi and Keshav Maharaj will lead the attack.

Verdict

I am backing South Africa to win this first T20I with Dewald Brevis to top score for the visitors. Jamie Smith can continue his fine form for Engalnd.
