Team News
New Zealand: Opener Tom Latham was officially handed the captaincy reins from World Cup skipper Mitchell Santner, who played in the first three T20Is of the series following on a busy schedule in the T20 World Cup. Latham was unable to play in the 4th T20I due to a finger injury sustained in the 3rd match. James Neesham took over the captaincy from Latham for the 4th match and is likely to remain in charge for the series finale.
The loss of Latham along with opener Devon Conway (rested for the final two matches) has severely weakened the All Blacks’ top order. Paceman Lockie Ferguson is also being rested for the last two T20Is.
Josh Clarkson, Dane Cleaver and debutant Katene Clarke all stepped into the side for the 4th match, while Jayden Lennox is a potential debutant in the 5th match.
South Africa: The Proteas batting was poor in the 2nd and 3rd T20Is, but they produced a great performance in the 4th match. Connor Esterhuizen has impressed by top-scoring twice in his first 4 T20Is. He scored 45* on debut in the 1st match and a match-winning 57 in the 4th match.
"I just tried to play what was in front of me, normal cricket shots, and waited for the ball in my area. That was the only difference (compared to the previous two matches),"
said Esterhuizen after the match.
"I've loved every second of my first tour with the Proteas. The lessons I'd take are probably just how to deal with the pressure and the scrutiny. I don't think anyone masters how to deal with it but the more you do it, the more accustomed you come to it. That's the main message that coach Shukri Conrad said to us before the tour, especially the newcomers, that we will need to experience the pressure, the scrutiny and that everything's looked at through a microscope,” added Esterhuizen.
Another debutant on this series, Dian Forrester, has played four brief cameo innings in the series to prove his ability as a big-hitting batter for the future.
Gerald Coetzee and Keshav Maharaj are the joint leading wicket-takers in the series with six wickets each, while Ottneil Baartman has five wickets. South Africa's T20I debutant Prenelan Subrayen took 2/13 in the 4th match to give the Proteas the upper hand as New Zealand went about chasing their target.

Match Analysis
South Africa’s second-string squad were looking done and dusted after the 3rd T20I, with New Zealand taking a 2-1 lead in the series. With New Zealand resting two key players - and losing stand-in skipper Tom Latham to a finger injury - the sides looked a lot more balanced.
Five of the Proteas’ top six all contributed 19-plus to post a competitive score of 164/5. Their score should have been higher, but the All Blacks’ star of the series (Ben Sears, 1/22, econ 5.50) put in a superb display at the death to restrict the Proteas.
The Proteas bowling attack is strong despite some of their World Cup stars being rested. Their seamers played a key role in the win, but spinners Prenelan Subrayen (2/13, econ 4.33) and Keshav Maharaj (2/22, econ 5.50) throttled the All Blacks batters.
The pitch at Christchurch is likely to favour the pacemen more than the spinners, although the large boundaries are to the advantage of the spinners. South Africa are likely to go with four seamers for the series decider. The average 1st innings score at the Hagley Oval is under 155 runs.
Betting Markets to Watch
Player Performance
The bowlers have dominated the series, and with the 5th match set for the low-scoring Hagley Oval, we’re looking at another low-scoring match. Connor Esterhuizen is a strong candidate to be South Africa’s best batter after top scores of 45* and 57 in the series. Tim Robinson top-scored for New Zealand with 32 off 22 balls in the 4th T20I and is worth backing to score 30+ runs again for New Zealand.
Best Bowler
Gerald Coetzee is a good bet to take 1.5-plus wickets. He is joint-top wicket-taker for the Proteas after returning figures of 2/14, 1/28 and 3/31.
Most Match Sixes
The Proteas’ top order smacked 8 sixes in Wellington, while New Zealand managed just four in the 4th T20I. South Africa lead the six count 24-17 in the series. The Hagley Oval has long boundaries, so sixes might be in short supply, but the Proteas have the edge as it stands.
