New Zealand Women have dominated the T20I series against South Africa, securing a 3-1 lead with one match remaining. Key players such as Sophie Devine and Amelia Kerr have consistently performed, contributing significantly to their team's success. In the latest match, New Zealand chased down South Africa's total with over an over to spare, showcasing their superior form. South Africa's Laura Wolvaardt praised the team's efforts but acknowledged missed opportunities. With New Zealand's determination and outstanding performances, they aim for ongoing improvement ahead of global tournaments.

New Zealand vs South Africa Women Predictions

New Zealand have outplayed the Proteas in three of the four matches in their 5-match T20I series against South Africa. With the series secured I’m banking on them to keep the momentum going by claiming a 4-1 series triumph.

  • New Zealand Women’s Sophie Devine has scored 25, 55* & 64 in her last 3 innings.
  • New Zealand Women’s Amelia Kerr has scored 80, 78, 32, 30 & 31 in her last 5 innings.
  • South Africa Women’s Annerie Dercksen scored 55* off 32 balls in the 4th T20I.
  • South Africa Women’s Laura Wolvaardt has scored 41* & 37 in her last 3 innings.

Head-to-Head

New Zealand Women have won four and lost one of their last five T20Is against South Africa Women, including the last two on the bounce.

New Zealand Women Form

New Zealand picked up back-to-back wins over the Proteas to take a 3-1 winning lead in the series with one match to play.

Jess Kerr followed up her series figures of 2/13, 2/34 and 1/20 by taking 3/16, knocking over three of the Proteas’ top five batters as the visitors slipped to 89/4 in the 14th over. Amelia Kerr (1/32) and Sophie Devine (1/27) helped to keep the Proteas to a score of 159/6 off their 20 overs.

Georgia Plimmer (29 off 22) and Amelia Kerr (31 off 29) added 48 for the second wicket to get New Zealand off to a solid start. Sophie Devine hit 4 sixes and 6 fours in a blistering innings of 64 off 34 balls that powered New Zealand home with nine balls to spare.

South Africa Women Form

South Africa slipped to their 4th defeat in five T20Is when they lost to New Zealand by six wickets. The defeat ensured that they could not win the series ahead of the final match at Christchurch.

Sune Luus (30 off 29) got the innings off to a solid start, but the star of the innings was Annerie Dercksen, who slammed 8 fours and 1 six in her 32-ball 55*. Nadine de Klerk (20 off 14) and Kayla Reyneke (13 off 8) added valuable late runs to lift the Proteas to 159/6.

Chloe Tryon (2/13, econ 4.33) bowled a superb spell, knocking over two of New Zealand’s top three, but they couldn’t prevent their hosts from racing to the win with nine balls to spare. Annerie Dercksen and Nonkululeko Mlaba each picked up a wicket for the Proteas.

New Zealand vs South Africa Women Team News & Squads

Speaking during the post-match presentation, New Zealand skipper Amelia Kerr revealed her delight at securing the series win.

“Intent from the whole team has been outstanding. To win with more than an over to spare was outstanding. Jess was outstanding today. Her ability to swing the ball makes it difficult to play,” said Kerr.

“For us, we want to keep building and growing, and be ruthless to win games for your country. Our energy and intent has been outstanding, but something we can look to improve on and something we train for,” added Kerr.

South African captain Laura Wolvaardt was disappointed to have surrendered the series with a match to spare.

“We thought it was a par total, so very pleased with the score we got to, despite our start. When you give chances to batters like Devine, you are going to regret it. Lot to learn from, lot to discuss on where we can be better. Going to have to go back to the drawing board, be better and have that World Cup in mind,” said Wolvaardt during the post-match interviews.

New Zealand Women squad: Amelia Kerr (c), Suzie Bates, Sophie Devine, Flora Devonshire, Isabella Gaze, Maddy Green, Brooke Halliday, Bree Illing, Polly Inglis, Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Nensi Patel, Georgia Plimmer, Izzy Sharp, Lea Tahuhu.

I am backing New Zealand Women to win. I am also backing Sophie Devine to top score for New Zealand Women.

Annerie Dercksen is a good bet to top score for the South Africa Women.
