Australia faces numerous challenges in their bid to reach the 2027 World Test Championship final, with a high-stakes Ashes series against England, an away tour to South Africa, a trans-Tasman clash with New Zealand on home soil, and a crucial five-Test tour of India.

In June 2025, Australia reached their second consecutive World Test Championship final; however, they failed to defend their title, losing to rivals South Africa at Lord’s, marking a rare lapse in an otherwise dominant era.

In late 2025, Australia will welcome England for a highly anticipated five-Test Ashes series, with the hosts aiming to extend their 15-year unbeaten Ashes record on home soil, while England will be seeking their first victory in a decade.

In September and October 2026, Australia will tour South Africa for a significant three-Test series, marking their first visit to South African soil since the infamous 'Sandpapergate' scandal of 2018.

Towards the end of 2026, Australia will host New Zealand for a much-anticipated four-match Test Series, reigniting the trans-Tasman rivalry with crucial World Test Championship points on the line.

During the early part of 2027, Australia will embark on their first five-Test Series tour of India since 1992. The showdown for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy could prove decisive in determining which team reaches the WTC final.
