Bangladesh completed a clinical innings victory over Ireland in the 1st Test. Ireland don’t look as if they have any answer for Bangladesh’s firepower. The 2nd Test should be another big win for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh bounced back from losing their two-Test series against Sri Lanka 1-0 to beat Ireland by an innings in the 1st Test.

Bangladesh’s top-order all made runs in the 1st Test and, aside from the two centurions, Shadman Islam (80), Mominul Haque (82) and Litton Das (60) all added half-centuries.

Hasan Murad returned figures of 2/47 and 4/60 against Ireland on the back of domestic figures of 6/39, 3/96 and 2/61. Taijul Islam proved a good foil for Murad, returning figures of 2/78 and 3/84 against Ireland. Islam took 4/159 and 2/129 in the National Cricket League match ahead of the 1st Test.

Bangladesh are in good form and are unlikely to make any changes to their team.

After enjoying a golden run of three Test wins in a row since February 2024 before losing to Bangladesh by an innings and 47 runs.

Curtis Campher and Lorcan Tucker scored well-crafted 40s in the 1st innings, with Andy McBrine adding a solid 52 in the 2nd innings, but although a lot of batters made starts, no-one was able to push on to a substantial innings. Debutant Cade Carmichael batted well for his 59 in the first innings, which came on the back of scores of 60, 65 & 105 leading up to the 1st Test.

Matthew Humphreys took 5/170 in Bangladesh’s innings, his second Test five-wicket haul in just five bowling innings. Humphreys took five of the eight Bangladesh wickets to fall before their declaration.

Ireland’s batters looked to be finding their feet, but they need their more senior players to post some big numbers in the 2nd Test against Bangladesh.
