England vs India Preview & Tips
India will be confident of turning around the 3rd Test result given that England are heavily reliant on Joe Root. I am tipping India to win as my best bet.
- England’s Joe Root has scored 64, 109, 180 & 121 runs in 4 of his last 5 Test innings’.
- England’s Joe Root has been the top team run scorer in the last 5 Test innings’.
- England have lost 5 of their last 9 Test matches.
- India’s Rohit Sharma has scored 83 & 59 runs in 2 of his last 3 Test innings’.
- India have won 4 of their last 6 Test matches against England.
Head to Head
India lead England 4-2 in their last seven Test matches. The current series is level at 1-1 after three matches.
England won the 3rd Test by an innings and 76 runs to level the series in Leeds.
England Form
England returned to some sort of form in the 3rd Test against India, winning by an innings and 76 runs. This after they had suffered five defeats in their previous eight Tests’.
In truth, India had dominated the first two fixtures but the third was won by the hosts on the first day. Bowling first, James Anderson and Craig Overton took three wickets each to dismiss India for a measly 78 runs.
Thereafter England piled on the runs. Rory Burns (61) and Haseeb Hameed (68) got the hosts off to a fantastic start before Dawid Malan and Joe Root dominated, scoring 70 and 121 runs respectively. That was the fifth consecutive Test innings that Root top scored for England.
The 432-run total posed India a huge threat of an innings defeat. Although India fought gallantly on day three, Ollie Robinson took 5-65 on the fourth morning to secure a comfortable win.
England Team News
Jos Buttler has been ruled out of the 4th Test as he attends the birth of his child. Chris Woakes is also fit again and could replace Sam Curran.
Jonny Bairstow will keep wicket in Buttler’s absence which opens the door for the return of Ollie Pope.
India Form
India will be disappointed that this series is level after three matches. They were odds on to win the 1st Test but rain saved England before the visitors won the 2nd Test at Lord’s.
Coming into the 3rd Test, India were looking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead but a batting collapse on the first morning saw the match lost there. They were dismissed for just 78 runs within 41 overs which left them chasing the match.
England went on to score 432 runs with Mohammed Shami taking four wickets. Staring a big defeat in the face India went about trying to create a miracle comeback. It began well with Rohit Sharma scoring 59 and Cheteshwar Pujara 91 runs.
They lost just two wickets on day three but on the fourth morning it was again the new ball that undid all the good work. Virat Kohli managed 55 runs as he returned to form but India were bowled out for 278 runs, losing by an innings and 76 runs.
India Team News
India may look to bring in an extra batsman given the poor form of players such as Rishabh Pant and Ajinkya Rahane.
Should that happen Hanuma Vihari is the likely choice. Ravindra Jadeja could also be forced out with a knee injury. If he is unfit there could be a return to the middle order for KL Rahul with Mayank Agarwal opening the batting.

Verdict
India are tipped to bounce back with a win in the 4th Test. Rohit Sharma's form has been good recently so can be looked at in the best batsman and man of the match markets.
Joe Root has top scored in the last five innings for England. He is backed to do the same here in the first innings, a feat that will equal the record should he succeed.
