The upcoming Test match between India and South Africa in Guwahati is set to be thrilling, with massive stakes for India after their loss in the first Test. The Guwahati pitch, a new Test venue, adds to the unpredictability, and an early start is planned due to potential bad light later in the day. South Africa has a rare chance to win their first series in India in 20 years. Despite team struggles on the turning pitches, Temba Bavuma and KL Rahul are strong contenders for high run scoring in this crucial encounter.

India vs South Africa Predictions

This is building up to be a cracking encounter. Must-win for India but not much is known of the surface in Guwahati as it is a new Test venue. It will also be an early start due to the bad light that plays a role later in the day.

With no history of the pitch and both teams struggling to score runs, I am staying away from a result in this match. I am rather going to focus on the run scoring markets with Temba Bavuma and KL Rahul my focus points.

  • India's KL Rahul top scored in the 1st innings of the last Test.
  • South Africa won the 1st Test of this series.
  • South Africa’s Temba Bavuma scored 55* in his last Test innings.

Head to Head

South Africa won the first Test of this series and will now be seeking their first series win in India in 20 years.

India Form

India are under massive pressure coming into this second test to avoid yet another home series defeat. They lost the first Test by 30 runs.

Bowling first, India dismissed South Africa for 159 runs with Jasprit Bumrah taking 5-27. In response, India could only muster 189 runs as KL Rahul top scored with 39 runs.

On a pitch taking plenty of turn, a 30-run lead was substantial. South Africa were then bowled out for 153 runs, this time Ravindra Jadeja took 4-50, however, India let it slip after the visitors were 91-7.

Needing 124 for victory was not as simple as it looked after all. India lost wickets from the start, failing to build substantial partnerships and were eventually all out for 93 runs.

India Injuries & Team News

Indian captain, Shubman Gill, has been ruled out of the second Test after failing to bat in either innings of the first Test.

South Africa Form

South Africa won their first Test match in India in 15 years in the first Test. On a rank turner, both teams struggled to compile runs but, in the end, South Africa out-spun India which in itself is a huge surprise.

Batting first, South Africa put on a 50-run opening stand with Aiden Markram scoring 31 runs. They collapsed thereafter, all out for 159 runs.

The bowlers kept them in the game as Marco Jansen took 3-35 and Simon Harmer 4-30 to bowl India out for 189. The South Africa batsmen struggled again, this time on a pitch that was turning square at pace.

Temba Bavuma played incredible innings, scoring 55 runs. However, while 55 might not sound like much, it was equal to a 150+ score on any other pitch. His contribution game the Proteas something to bowl at when they set India 124 to win.

Simon Harmer delivered again, taking 4-21 while Jansen and Keshav Maharaj took two wickets each. India were all out for 93 runs.

South Africa Injuries & Team News

Uncertainty over Kagiso Rabada has been around since the conclusion of the first test and it is now confirmed; he will miss this game as well due to injury.

Verdict

I am backing Temba Bavuma and KL Rahul in the run scoring markets for this game.
