In June 2025, South Africa claimed their first World Test Championship crown with a historic victory over Australia in the final at Lord’s. The win ended decades of disappointment and heartbreak for the Proteas on the global cricketing stage.

South Africa will face India in a tough two-match Test series for the Freedom Trophy in November 2025. The iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata will host the first match, with the second being played in Guwahati, marking its debut as a Test venue. 

A highly anticipated three-match home Test series against Australia is scheduled for September and October 2026, marking the first time the two sides will meet on South African soil since the "Sandpapergate" cricketing scandal in 2018.     

At the end of 2026, South Africa have an important three-match Test series against England for the Basil D'Oliveira Trophy. The Proteas last defeated their opponents on home soil in the 1999/00 season, having lost three of the last four Test series against England in South Africa, including one drawn.
