Head to Head
New Zealand have won their last six Test matches against Zimbabwe, including the first Test of this series.
Zimbabwe Form
Zimbabwe struggled in the first Test, failing to score 200 runs in either of their two innings. They lost the match by nine wickets in Bulawayo.
Batting first, Zimbabwe lost early wickets and at 69-5 were in deep trouble. There was a slight recovery thanks to Craig Ervine (39) and Tafadzwa Tsiga (30) but they were all out for 149.
The Black Caps responded with 307 as Zimbabwe’s bowlers fought back with some excellent bowling. Their second innings didn’t match the bowling effort, bowled out for 165 with Sean Williams scoring 49 runs.
New Zealand were left to chase eight runs to win. Zimbabwe managed to get one wicket before the visitors reached their target.
Zimbabwe Team News
Zimbabwe have struggled in recent Tests against South Africa and New Zealand to score many runs. Sean Williams is the only one consistently scoring, so we may see some changes there.
New Zealand Form
New Zealand dominated the first test from start to finish. Bowling first, Matt Henry took 6-39 as Zimbabwe crumbled to 149 all out.
Will Young and Devon Conway put on a 92-run opening stand with the latter scoring 88 runs. Daryl Mitchell also contributed 80 lower down the order but other batsmen struggled with the Black Caps all out for 307.
Mitchell Santner took four wickets in the second innings while Henry added three more, taking his tally to nine in the match. Zimbabwe were all out for 165.
Needing eight runs to win, Devon Conway fell for four, but the nine-wicket win was secured with ease.
New Zealand Team News
Nathan Smith and Will O’ Rourke will both miss the 2nd Test due to injury.
Verdict
Devon Conway is backed to score over 31.5 runs in the first innings and top score for New Zealand.
Sean Williams is our best bet to top score in Zimbabwe's first innings.
