Markram named Manchester Super Giants’ No 1 priority
Manchester Super Giants coach Justin Langer was delighted that his side secured the services of South Africa whiteball captain Aiden Markram after the player auction on Thursday 12 March 2026 auction.
Langer confirmed that Markram was his side’s been 'Number 1 priority' ahead of the 2026 The Hundred season. The South African also fetched the highest price for an overseas player at the auction. He is now a squad member of three Super Giants franchise teams, including the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL and the Durban Super Giants in the SA20.
"It's nice to have him in three of our teams: brilliant player, outstanding human being, and also real captaincy material. That's one of the facets of his game that we love, his leadership," said Langer after the auction.
Strong top-order
Markram will team up with big-hitting former Proteas middle-order batter Heinrich Klaasen along with Afghanistan's left-arm unorthodox spin bowler Noor Ahmad and New Zealand’s World Cup star opener Tim Seifert. Local stars for the Super Giants include Jos Buttler, Josh Tongue, Gus Atkinson, Tom Hartley and Liam Dawson.
The Manchester Super Giants finished 6th in the 2025 The Hundred playing under their original name of the Manchester Originals. Their best performances in the Hundred were in 2022 and 2023, when they finished runners-up in both seasons.
A 27-day season
The Hundred season runs from 21 July to 16 August 2026, with the Manchester Super Giants opening their campaign with an away fixture against the London Spirit at Lord’s on 23 July 2026.
Their last group match of the season will be played on 11 August against Sunrisers Leeds at Old Trafford in Manchester, ahead of the playoffs.
