Race 1 – Fyfield Legend (4)
Jockey: M Yeni
Trainer: K. Mitchley
Fyfield Legend should have this in the bag, with just two other strong challengers in the 10-horse field. Silva Streaker (3.25) and Trickle Charge (4.35) are the only other two runners in the Maiden Juvenile plate that opens the day’s racing. There are no previous winners in the field, but Silva Streak has placed third and second in the 3-yr-old grey colt’s last two runs.
Fyfield Legend is head and shoulders the most accomplished runners in the field, with six second-place finishes in the 3-yr-old bay gelding’s last seven runs. His last run was just six days ago, but he looks full of running so he’s clearly the one to back.
Race 3 – Anuschka’s World (3)
Jockey: M Yeni
Trainer: K. Mitchley
A tight field of seven horses shows the promise for a three-way battle for the line between Fairy Knight (3.50), Cruise Control (1.84) and Anuschka’s World (3.25).
Cruise Control placed 3-2-1-2 in his last four runs and Fairy Knight has 13 wins and has run 1-1-1-3-4 in his last five runs, but I’m going with Anuschka’s World, who has been more consistent with finishes of 2-4-1-1-1 leading up to Friday’s race.
Race 6 – Coral Creek (5)
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: AC Greeff
Plenty of previous winners in this tight field, with Stokesy (3.75), Masked Vigilante (6.00) and Away With Red (7.50) all slated to be fighting for the line.
I’m backing Coral Creek to take it by a nose, despite two poor finishes in his last five runs. Inbetween those two 10th place finishes was a 2-3-2 finishing streak which hints at a consistency that I think will count at the final line in a field with plenty of inconsistent runners.
Race 8 – Slash ’n Burn (5)
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Trainer: A. C. Greeff
A monster field of 14 should end in a shootout between Slash ’n Burn and Rhydian, with both runners chalked up at early odds of 4.00, with the inexperienced Overture just behind them at 5.00.
Rhydian has finished 2-2 in his last two runs but finished fifth or lower in his previous three outings. Slash ’n Burn has my vote after his last three runs of 2-1-3.
Verdict
Wins for Fyfield Legend, Anuschka’s World, Coral Creek and Slash ’n Burn.
