Japan vs Sweden Predictions - Japan set for victory over Sweden at FIFA World Cup

Editor
Last updated: 3 hours ago

In the upcoming clash between Japan and Sweden, Japan enters as the favorite with an impressive recent form, including seven wins from their last eight matches. Sweden’s defense has looked fragile, conceding goals consistently despite strong attacking displays. Key Japanese players like Ayase Ueda have been in top scoring form, and there are no injury worries for either side. The forecast leans towards a Japan victory with both sides likely to score, making Ayase Ueda a smart pick for an anytime goal bet.

  • Sweden has scored in last 8 matches but struggles defensively.

Japan vs Sweden Predictions

Sweden began the tournament on fire but were humbled by the Dutch last time out. I feel Japan will have too much for this Swedish backline.

  • Japan have won 7 of their last 8 matches.
  • Japan have seen BTTS in 3 of their last 4 matches against Sweden.
  • Japan’s Ayase Ueda has scored 2 goals in his last match.
  • Sweden have lost of their last 11 matches.
  • Sweden have seen BTTS in their last 8 matches.

Head to Head

These two have played six times with Sweden winning two and Japan once. The other three ended level.

Japan Form

Japan’s performances and form have been strong so far, already securing a spot in the World Cup 2026 Round of 32 after collecting four points from the opening two matches.

They held favored Netherlands to a 2-2 draw in the opening match, allowing just 0.84 expected goals against this squad with high scoring potential, scoring two equalizers through Keito Nakamura and Daichi Kamada.

The Blue Samurai controlled the second round clash against Tunisia from start to finish, earning well-deserved 4-0 victory here without allowing a single shot on target (opposition had just 0.04 xG). Ayase Ueda was named man of the match, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

Sweden Form

Latest calculations say that Sweden will need one point from this final group stage match to secure a spot in the Round of 32, currently sitting in 3rd place in Group F with one win and one loss.

The Scandinavian side looked impressive in their opening 5-1 victory against Tunisia, Yasin Ayari scoring a brace while Alexander Isak registered one goal and two assists. They ended this match with 1.34-0.27 expected goals.

They were completely outplayed in the second match by the Netherlands 5-1, Anthony Elanga scoring a consolation. The Swedes are agile and attackingly oriented here, firing 16 shots total.

Japan vs Sweden News & Predicted Lineups

Japan (3-4-3) Zion Suzuki; Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ko Itakura, Hiroki Ito; Ritsu Doan, Ao Tanaka, Daichi Kamada, Keito Nakamura; Junya Ito, Kaishu San, Ayase Ueda

Ayase Ueda has been Japan's top contributor so far with two goals and one assist. Daichi Kamada is just behind with two goals. They have no injury or suspension concerns ahead of this match.

Sweden (3-5-2) Kristoffer Nordfeldt; Gustaf Lagerbielke, Isak Hien, Victor Lindelof, Alexander Bernhardsson, Gabriel Gudmundsson; Benjamin Nygren, Jesper Karlstrom, Yasin Ayari; Viktor Gyokeres, Alexander Isak

Yasin Ayari is having a great tournament so far with two goals, but he also needs to be careful of yellow card accumulation, as well as Gabriel Gudmundsson.

Verdict

Sweden didn’t miss to score in their last eight matches, but their back line has been quite leaky for months. I am predicting Japan to win here with BTTS.

Another bet worth considering is Ayase Ueda to score anytime. He had a great season in Feyenoord and netted a brace against Tunisia.
