Race 1 – Onthewingsofadove (12)

Jockey: A Domeyer

Trainer: Candice Bass

Onthewingsofadove has burst onto the scene with two strong performances, placing 2/7 and 2/12 in her first two races since debuting in May this year at Kenilworth. The 3-yr-old bay filly ran a great race in her last race, holding second for much of the run but just lacking the finishing power to challenge for the tape.

Onthewingsofadove’s only big challenger looks to be Red Flag, another 3-yr-old bay filly who debuted in June at Kenilworth, running 4-4 in her first two races before claiming 2/11 in her last race at Durbanville 27 days ago.

Race 5 – Fort Liam (6)

Jockey: A Domeyer

Trainer: Greg Ennion

Fort Liam has six Top 3 finishes from 11 starts, including two wins. A first win came in early February, followed by a steady performance of 2-4-3-5 before his second win which came in his last race at Durbanville. The 4-yr-old bay gelding has had 31 days with his hooves up and is a strong call to be at the front of the pack at the end of the race.

Fort Liam faces some strong competition from Superhero (2-1-4), Liefling (3-2-1), Bourbon King (4-2-1-3-1), Baton Rouge (5-4-3-4-6-1) and Waloyo Yamoni (3-1-5-7-1), making it a super-tough race to call.

Race 7 – Major Apollo (9)

Jockey: Brevan Plaatjies

Trainer: Greg Ennion

The 6-yr-old bay gelding Major Apollo isn’t a consistent finisher but he knows how to hit the Top 3 placings inbetween some more casual performances. Two wins, three seconds and two thirds from 25 starts isn’t headline making, but he has pulling power.

His two wins came in 2023 and 2024, but he has found strength in his last race after a poor previous seven months, finishing second after holding strong through the final 400m and showing signs of great racing strength.

My Bonny Boy has also shown great form (5-6-2-1) and African Memoir won two races back but hasn’t been consistent (6-8-1-7), which matches Winter Pirate’s potential (3-2-1-8).

Race 8 – Oliver (7)

Jockey: Kabelo Matsunyane

Trainer: Adam Marcus

Oliver has had 30 starts and has a strong record of five wins, six second place finishes and four thirds. The 7-yr-old bay gelding hasn’t had a headline-making run but is still looking good. He has run 3-2-4-3-5-9-4, but that last run was a strong performance that gives me confidence in his legs and lungs.

Backing Oliver is a brave call considering the form of some of his competition. Flying Finley (4-1-2-1-2) and All About Al (5-6-1-2-1) are the strongest runners among a field with plenty of recent winners, so it’s a race that’s really up in the air.
