Make no mistake — there is still plenty of exciting football on at the moment. The South African Premier Division promotion/relegation playoffs will undoubtedly be an interesting affair as Maritzburg United battle it out with Royal Eagles and TTM FC. Further abroad, there is Eredivisie action on today and an EFL Championship playoff between Leeds United and Derby County.

However, now is a particularly good time to start placing bets ahead of the 2019 Cricket World Cup. South Africa have held the unwanted "chokers" tag since the infamous run-out involving Allan Donald and Lance Klusener in 1999, but with expectations against them this year, now could finally be their time to set the record books straight.

Cricket World Cup Betting Tips and Options

The Cricket World Cup gets underway on 30 May and ends on 14 July. England are on home soil and are rated as tournament favourites at 3.20 to win outright via Hollywoodbets. We will get a good idea of what Trevor Bayliss' men have to offer early on in the tournament as they play the opening match against South Africa at The Oval.

The Proteas, coached by former England bowling coach Ottis Gibson, are fourth favourites according to the bookies. India are paying 3.80 to repeat their 2011 tournament win with Australia paying 5.00 to retain the title. South Africa are some distance out according to the odds and are priced at 10.00.

It would be a huge mistake to write the Proteas off after five ODI series wins in a row and with several in-form players. The likes of Quinton de Kock, Rassie van der Dussen and Andile Phehlukwayo could just lead South Africa all the way.
