This is a tough one to call with the Cheetahs losing their opener and the Pumas winning at home last weekend. However, the Cheetahs are generally quite strong at home, so I am backing them to come out on top.

Last season, the Cheetahs beat the Pumas 41-14 away from home in the final round before knockouts.

The Cheetahs will be desperate on Friday when they face the Pumas in their first home Currie Cup game of the season.

Last weekend, the Cheetahs suffered a shock defeat against Boland. It was an atrocious first half display by the Bloemfontein-based side. They fought back in the second half to take the lead, but Boland scored eight minutes after the hooter to win the game 37-35.

That result puts the Cheetahs on the backfoot early in the season. They cannot afford another slip-up, particularly not at home.

Head coach Francois Steyn will likely look to make some changes after a poor performance on Sunday. They will need a win on home soil this weekend or it could become a long season.

Pumas Form

The Pumas come into this game high on confidence. They won the SA Cup earlier this season, beating the Griquas in the final.

Last week, on home soil, the Pumas showed their class once again, beating Griquas 49-28. While it was an exciting fixture, the Pumas always looked in control of the outcome.

That performance will have some of the bigger unions take note. The Pumas, 2022 Currie Cup champions, are once again looking to challenge.
